So there I was, trying to photograph this Bee in flight and up pops a female Stonechat 🤣🙃

A female Stonechat, with her reddish brown chest and chocolate coloured head, perched on blackberries and bramble, with a passing just slightly left of centre. All of this against a warm green back tone provided by the sand dune grasses.

A male Kingfisher is perched on a small branch in the bottom left hand corner of the picture, all the way up to its black beak that is just above centre. Its Orange feet blend into the Orange front that goes right up to the neckline. A small white stripe runs vertically from under the beak to the neckline, and to the side of the face is a splash of orange that matches its chest. The head is like tiny polka dots of blue, black and white, and the blue continues to run down its back in two different tones. He also has a semi white collar. Behind him is a flush of Green from nearby reeds

Absolutely not the best shot of this subject you'll ever see, but it was lovely witness the colourful combo of Kingfisher and Purple Loosestrife across the water from the Steetley hide at Brandon Marsh yesterday and I couldn't resist sharing this far from perfect memento of the sighting.

Thanks to my brother @rob_camera for coming over and encouraging me to get out with my camera; I haven't been doing that well of late and it was good to be out in nature again.

A Kingfisher perched on a dead reed stem, with reeds behind her and and several Purple Loosestrife flower spikes to the left of her. The bird is facing towards the right of the image. She has dark blue plumage on the top of her head and on her wings, bright blue plumage on her back and tail, orange plumage on her chest and belly, with a patch of that colour behind her eye and on the underside of her otherwise dark beak, and white plumage on her throat and behind the orange patch on her face.

On this date three years ago, I went to Brownsea Island on the last full day of my first holiday since lockdown. There, I photographed (amongst other things) a female Keeled Skimmer Dragonfly (pic 1). The day before, at Studland Heath, a male of that species had posed for my camera (pic 2).

More info on the Keeled Skimmer here: british-dragonflies.org.uk/spe

A female Keeled Skimmer Dragonfly, at rest on a dead twig in a patch of Heather. We are looking down at the top and left side of the Dragonfly, which is facing towards the left side of the image. Most of the body is a yellowish brown colour, with black lines circling the abdomen at intervals along its length and a black line along the top - the keel. Thick stripes in darker and paler shades adorn the thorax, while the large compound eyes on the head are a greyish brown colour. The black-veined wings are mostly clear, but along the leading edges there are some pale, yellowish cells and, towards the wing tip, a darker, brown coloured cell.A male Keeled Skimmer Dragonfly, at rest on the stem of a brown, dead Bracken frond. We are looking down on the Dragonfly, which is facing towards the top of the image. The head and thorax are blackish in colour, with hints of blue. The abdomen is a pale blue in colour, with each segment demarcated by think black lines, and a further thin black line along the centre - the keel. The black-veined wings are almost entirely clear, but for a single long cell on the leading edge of each wing, near the tip, which is brown in colour.
