We were out walking this morning, when I spotted the shape of a bird in across a field. I didn't know what kind of bird it was at the time but was hoping for something different. I crossed a road and a ditch, and even trespassed on to my neighbor's property to get closer to the bird. I don't think the neighbor would mind. I often have to go fetch Ben from around their house - they have small dogs. Anyway, Ben and Charlie followed me as I moved closer and closer snapping pictures, but before I got close enough for a detailed photo, the bird flew away. As it turns out, it was a red bellied woodpecker (Melanerpes carolinus) fairly common to my camera. But because of the effort I put in to get the photo, I'm sharing. ;-)
