Jewelry makers trying to earn a living. Writers who need others to know their tales are ready to be consumed. Trans people who need to be heard. Citizens who fear what their country has become, and absurdists who want to make me laugh.

This place holds the promise we hoped Twitter and Facebook promised us.

Was hält die davon ab, endlich aktiv bei Mastodon zu sein. Ich schnalls nicht. Nur, weil hier keine Zitatfunktion besteht? (Die ich im übrigen auch sehr zur Info-Weitergabe vermisse?)

@BigBolle Ostwestfalen hab ich auch. Allerdings eher Richtung Verl und Rheda-Wiedenbrück. Ansonsten bin ich eine ziemliche Mischung: Thüringen, Ostpreußen, Schleswig-Holstein, Altes Land etc. und alles kam zusammen im Ruhrgebiet.

In ~2014, my colleague & I argued that social media (esp. Twitter) had become part of the critical infrastructure of disaster response. People were turning to Twitter during crises to share information about impacts and resources. Disaster responders were using the data shared there for situational awareness, and were communicating in real-time with their constituents. Today’s events underscore just how dangerous it is for society to come to rely on private platforms as critical infrastructure.
