RE: mastodon.neat.computer/@privac

I'm so excited for 2026. Come work for me! 🤩

This is a really unique position I'm beyond lucky to be able to hire for, because all we do is create educational content with no conflicts of interest about privacy, digital rights, and FOSS. Who else even does anything like us? 😎

If this isn't a fit for you, but you see value in what we're doing at @privacyguides and want to support our future hire, please consider becoming a monthly member of our site or sending us a donation. Any little bit helps make all this possible 🙏

@kesertki @privacyguides @techlore Mullvad is probably a better option if you don't use Firefox

Mozilla VPN is one of the most overlooked options in my opinion. No, this isn't sponsored 🙃

The servers are powered by Mullvad, one of the @privacyguides recommendations.

As a Firefox Container Tabs user, I love how these can be configured to use different server locations. Yes, you can use two different server locations for two different tabs at the same time. You can configure certain sites to always open in a specific container.

They recently added the ability for you to exclude certain sites or certain containers from the VPN, a feature I appreciate for banking websites: connect.mozilla.org/t5/ideas/d

This is preferable to abandoning a VPN and relying only on a browser proxy, which is what today's @techlore video covers: youtu.be/EwgTKdzTELY

If you're regularly turning off your VPN to access websites and you use Firefox, definitely consider Mozilla VPN.

Coinbase saw what happened to the US Bank Smartly and said "yes, we want to copy that."

fwiw the card looks cool.

Monero is a cryptocurrency with strong privacy properties by default, but your wallet still needs a way to connect privately to the network. The best solution is to run your own Monero node, a copy of the blockchain which allows you to connect without anyone else knowing when you're using your wallet or sending transactions.

Our latest tutorial showcases how to easily set up your own Monero node on your TrueNAS server, using MAGIC Grants's pre-packaged Monero apps: privacyguides.org/articles/202

Always remember, when it comes to hardware security keys: Two is one, one is none.

Our latest article covers the setup process for two YubiKeys (from Yubico's YubiKey 4 or 5 series) to keep your online accounts safe and secure 🔒 + it goes through resetting your existing keys to a blank slate, and the reasons you might want to do so!

EasyOptOuts is one of the cheapest people search site removal services at $19.99/yr, but does it work? @jonah from @privacyguides investigated their service with real-world tests to find out:

The recent two blog posts by @soatok about @session messenger are about a theoretical attack, not a practical one.

I discuss this in more detail here:

discuss.privacyguides.net/t/do

If this concerns you, you should use Signal, which does not have this issue. @privacyguides primarily recommends #Signal #SimpleX and #Briar, and it only recommends #Element and #Session if the primary options are infeasible for some reason.
