I would love some advice or to hear about experiences of people who have successfully migrated a -424 series Terramaster NAS to TrueNAS from TOS. I'm currently seriously considering it so I can have more granular control over network shares, possibly better integration with Proxmox, and all around just a better experience.

I plan to buy a USB hub to plug peripherals in for the installation as well as two m.2 SSDs for the OS as well as R/W cache within the next week. My specific model is the F2-424.

If anyone has done this or could point me in the direction of some articles/videos from people who have, that would be amazing!

SOS #TrueNAS scale et #proxmox. Hier j'ai passé 3 hdd physiques de 3To à ma VM Promox TrueNas. J'ai oublié de supprimer la sauvegarde de ces disques dans Proxmox. La sauvegarde a donc quasi remplie mon 1er tank qui est monté sur une VM proxmox backup server. J'ai interrompu la sauvegarde des heures après son début. Mais l'espace ne se libère pas. J'ai cherché à supprimer cette sauvegarde mais elle n'est pas listée et dans l'arborescence en console je ne trouve rien non plus. J'ai lancé un garbage collector sans succès... bref je cherche comment libérer ces To ... Merci à ceux qui auront une idée !

My biggest problem with updating software on my #TrueNAS box is trying to remember how I installed it in the first place.

If you're running #TrueNAS Scale don't try to update apps at the moment. The #AWS outage seems to have broken docker.io, which in turn is breaking iX's app update mechanism.

Today's #homelab adventure:

My Truenas Scale install had a zfs disk with errors, and it still had my pihole 'application' running in the now-defunct TrueCharts system that was retired about a year back.

I migrated my #pihole install to a physical #raspberrypi 4 (exporting and re-importing my config was a breeze with the UI tools)

I updated my #unifi router's DNS config to use the new pihole address

I shut down the final remnants of TrueCharts in my #Truenas system

And all this was happening while my #zfs pool re-silvered after replacing the damaged drive.

#selfhosting can come with maintenance and that's not always fun. But today things went smoothly and I actually enjoyed it quite a bit.

There is now a #TrueNAS Storage Plugin available for #Proxmox that supports thin provisioning and snapshots via iSCSI.

@decryption I have been too thrifty, fly high errors on one disk, and reallocated sectors (rising) on another. Scrutiny reports 12 month failure chances of 25% and 55% respectively.

If anyone knows a good use for a near death 10TB drive I'm entirely ears.

#TrueNAS neigte bei mir dazu nach dem einspielen des Backups die VMs in die #UEFI Shell statt ins OS zu booten. Das lässt sich relativ einfach fixen. In der UEFI Shell “FS0:” eingeben dann ins Verzeichnis “/boot/EFI/” die .efi Datei booten und anschließend im laufenden System ein grub-install und fertig ist die Laube.

Finally after 2 days I got #Nextcloud installed on my #TrueNas server. Kept failing, because it wasn't clear what fields I should fill in and with what values. Too bad the Android app is useless for me (I need to sync files too, instead of only media). But Contacts and Calenders sync fine.

So meine #TrueNAS Kiste läuft wieder, war tatsächlich ziemlich schmerzfrei bis auf die Geschichte mit der #pihole #VM und deren boot in die #UEFI Shell.

Hab da mal nen Display ran gemacht an die VM und anscheinend wird da das Image nicht gebootet ich seh nur die UEFI Console. Jemand ne Idee wieso?

Bei meinem #TrueNas ist der Bootpool im Arsch. Ich vermute eine defekte SSD, also neue bestellt. Nun hoff ich das das Backup problemlos die Kiste nach neuinstallation wiederherstellt.

Muss ich was beachten? Irgendwelche Fallstricke?
