I make bad games

2025-06-12

@sycophantic @charlesp @GrapheneOS I think maybe we're misinterpreting what happened there.

Seems like they got heads up AOSP is going away some time ago and this is what they're referring too. Perhaps Google has backpedalled from that decision in the meantime and now only downscales the opensourcing. Still, If they made step 1, I would guess it's only time until they make step 2 and 3, even if it takes few years.

Thanks to the SteamOS Legion Go benchmark video and PewDiePie switching to Linux video, Linux supports channels have been full of stuff like this:

@charlesp @GrapheneOS Maybe they got threatened? I don't see no reason to make this up.

@charlesp from what i read this screenshot is from matrix bridged to discord?

@devsimsek AI cannot "summarise" or "solve" all these machines do is predict the most probable following letter in a sequence. Then you feed the thing with the text AGAIN with the extra letter appended and ask for the next one.

It's a statistically most probably string of characters that looks like something you would consider an answer.

Didn't have Android going closed source on my "corporations turning everything into shit" bingo card.

Hey you! If you haven't yet, go check out the demo for Fading Serenades, a chill game about delivering packages with a touch of sci-fi!

Would love to read what you think about it. Wishlist it too!

@Takki Better than VS for sure! Debugging isn't the best (it's just gdb/lldb), but for editing it's lightyears ahead of microsoft.

2025-06-12

@maize What's the software? Try it through CodeWeavers Crossover! It's paid but fixed a couple of my grievances. (this is the paid version of Wine from basically the Wine developers)

2025-06-12

@MouseByTheSea @slembcke VS debugger is GOAT, but VS the IDE is a shitshow ATM, I'm glad to be using CLion, and can spin up a VM or dual boot to Windows if I ever need to find a memory corruption or need to profile.

2025-06-11

@sol_hsa Yeah it's the tiny things. But CLion with clang works out of the box for me!

2025-06-11

@sol_hsa I mean, there are things that bother me, but there are more things that bother me on Windows :P It just maths out to Linux in my case

2025-06-11

@speaktrap no do serwera normalnie :P na desktopie tez troche ale cinżko (chociaż teraz jak jest wayland to mneij cinżko)

2025-06-11

@jalict The difference is you can fix things that do not work!

2025-06-11

@RogDolos Oh I'm using CLion on Linux, it's seamless and will sync with Windows version too!

2025-06-11

@Jayenkai Oh is macOS bad too? I was thinking of getting a Macbook for a laptop actually now that my stuff is portable.

I have decided to go with Linux Mint. I'm not the biggest fan of debian/ubuntu based systems, as coming from FreeBSD I find the way you configure it odd (I just hate having system config and package config in one folder) and I know it doesn't have all the cutting-edge features, but I have no time to sit around and configure tiling window managers and neovim and tweak around. I just need the OS to work. And it does work!

2025-06-11

I don't use Mastodon much but I know the FOSS community is big here so I'll try to drop by more often to share about my Linux journey.

Just couple years ago i thought it was unimaginable to make games on anything but Windows, but then Microsoft just pumped so much bullshit into the system that it simply started getting in the way of my work.

I don't require much of an OS, but it just should not prohibit you from doing your work, or get in the way. The amount of bullshit on windows is insane.

2025-06-11

After some deliberation I decided to move my development stack from Windows to Linux.

I've been using windows for over 20 years and always loved it's backwards compatibility and stuff, but recently it has become borderline unusable and gets in the way of my work.

It took me like a single day to configure everything and it just works, and also works better than Windows too! I posted a thread of my reasoning and experience on BS (sorry):
