To be clear — here is what is happening

DOJ orders ICE to arrest people—even without a judicial warrant

People see these violations of their rights—peacefully protest

LAPD confirms people protested peacefully—as is their Constitutional right

Trump fabricates claim of violence—deploys National Guard

Fascists escalate violence to justify their existence. That’s what Trump is doing. Don’t fall for it. Stand united with our neighbors against this tyranny.

@noodle firefox-esr is fine, alternatively you could use chromium (mostly fine). There are several other options, but many sites or apps are less likely to work correctly with them.

“If the police decide to attack a group of protesters,
they will claim to have been provoked, and the
media will repeat whatever the police say, no matter
how implausible, as the basic initial facts of what
happened. This will happen whether or not anyone
at the protest does anything that can be remotely
described as violence. Many police claims will be
obviously ridiculous but no matter how many times
the police lie about such matters, the national media
will still report their claims as true, and it will be up
to protesters to provide evidence to the contrary. “

Is this system we are now in still capitalism, or is it just Feudalism with modern technology?

"It’s not even clear that the system we have,
which largely operates on rent extraction,
is actually “capitalism.”

I mean, we can argue over definitions but
back when I was in school, they told us that
capitalism is when you take your profits
indirectly through wage differentials, by
producing and selling things and exploiting
labor.

When you take money directly via procedural,
political means, that’s called “feudalism.”
What we’ve got now is a lot more like that."

@phil then I will agree that in practice you should not count on it, but IMO the DB is taking a legal risk here. There are such things as unfair clauses, and the burden of proof that the passenger was informed is on them. I'm not sure that a judge would agree that "has checked the box" is enough in that case. But as you've now admitted publicly that you actually did read it, that won't work for you anymore ;)

It’s 2025 and I can’t sign up for a T-Mobile free trial because their form doesn’t think that a two character last name is a valid name. 🙄

A T-Mobile form for first and last name. My last name is rejected with the error “Please enter a valid last name“.

Interesting. Increasing the taxes on the super rich has not been shown to increase their relocation to other countries.

Week 23 progress on #kotlin 2 packaging for #debian: got past the configuration phase. Fixed IDEA sync. Now sorting the remaining dependencies using the `resolveDependencies` task. Dropped a few more of them, referenced a few others.

salsa.debian.org/jpd/kotlin/-/

Screenshot of gradle building kotlin. Reads:

> Task :prepare:build.version:writeStdlibVersion
Writing new standard library version components: 2, 0, 21 (was: 2, 0, 255)

> Task :kotlin-reflect:stripMetadata FAILED
(…)

FAILURE: Build failed with an exception.

* What went wrong:
A problem was found with the configuration of task ':kotlin-reflect:stripMetadata' (type 'DefaultTask').
  - Property '$1' specifies file '/…/libraries/reflect/build/libs/kotlin-reflect-2.0.21.jar' which doesn't exist.

Reason: An input file was expected to be present but it doesn't exist.

    Possible solutions:
      1. Make sure the file exists before the task is called.
      2. Make sure that the task which produces the file is declared as an input.

org.gradle.internal.execution.WorkValidationException: A problem was found with the configuration of task ':kotlin-reflect:stripMetadata' (type 'DefaultTask').

In bookworm ntp was just an empty transitional package that depended on ntpsec.

> Most users will not need to take any specific action to transition from ntp to ntpsec.

debian.org/releases/bookworm/a

Not sure what happened here, normally if you had ntp you should have ended up with ntpsec installed on your system.
