@rgollub It was an innovation born of sheer laziness, I assure you. πŸ˜‚

So the problem with a kettle with a variable temperature setting is that sometimes you change it to 80 Β°C for a green #tea and then have several disappointing cups of black tea before you remember to switch it back to 100 Β°C...

@avertexofmyown Sounds similar. 😸 Although Oreos are probably worse for cats than pumpkin loaf. Esme would probably try to sneak a paw onto the plate to drag one off.

She doesn't always actually eat the things she steals but she'll usually lick them before batting them around so I have to be careful.

Ah, a rare sighting of the Uncommon Windowsill Slug

Common knowledge: #cats are obligate carnivores and don't eat bread.

My cat: proceeds to try to steal the pumpkin spice loaf slice from off my plate.

I didn't take a photo but here's one of the culprit practising her innocent look.

@jwilker @bookstodon Haha my recs tend to be a little bit better (at least in the same genre), but they really like to recommend books to buy that I've already bought.

2023-10-04

Kobo: Congrats on your last read! We've got your next read covered. Here are some suggestions.

Me: That was 2 days ago. I'm already 30% into my next read. You're a bit slow. Also I've already bought two of the titles you've listed as previously considered.

Really Kobo should include suggestions for unread books that I already have.

@lastrobot Oof, five of them? That seriously sucks.

Part of me wants to say "their loss", but really it just sucks all around.

I am kind of glad it isn't just me who has this problem though.

2023-09-02

@liztai @IPEdmonton so if you can, you can ignore her to teach her not to do that, or try to redirect her attention. But it's hard.

2023-09-02

@liztai @IPEdmonton That's fair!

An alternative might be to look into some interactive toys and just making sure she has cat friendly activities around the place (like a cat tree next to a window).

And if she's biting you, try not to play using your hands (just play with toys).

2023-09-02

@AimeeMaroux @bookstodon Really? I've seen it multiple times, and even with some more traditionally published authors. Hence the grumbling.

Sometimes they come back after a bit.

2023-09-02

@liztai They'll never completely grow out of it, and it depends highly on the individual cat, but maybe by 2?

I wouldn't want you to take on more than you can handle, but it can be surprising how much of a difference having a feline distraction can make with some cats.

Like, furry ball of destruction getting into everything to, well, just a cat. But it depends on the cat and how bored they are.
