Bad faith actors are trying to spin this statement about immigrants into a negative, saying it upset the Latino community. No.
The Latino community is not a monolith.
Who it upset, were the pro-ICE, pro-MAGA, anti-Latino immigration Latino community. The "I will vote, for Donald Trump🤡" crowd.
Who wasn't upset by it, were the majority of undocumented agricultural workers that work in Texas, and their families and loved ones. And yes, Crockett is up with Latino voters.
Crockett was speaking to a crowd of Black Church goers. 73% of Black people in the US disapprove of ICE raids, and support immigration and a path to documentation for the people that work in this country. This is the highest of any demographic slice, and higher support even than Latino Americans. But Crockett was talking to the 9% that are not sure, and the 16% that approve of ICE raids.
She didn't say this to campaign. Or to please those people. Or to make them feel good about their choices to harm migrant farm workers. She spoke with conviction here, because it is the right thing to do. We *are* a nation of immigrants. We *do* depend on immigrants for labor, in industries like nursing, food service, and agriculture. Immigrants *do* do so much for this country. Immigrants *do* deserve labor rights, and freedom from persecution.
