I need to be very clear, that the push towards "vibe coding" - that is, deliberately deskilling people - is because AI code assistants are an (increasingly expensive) subscription service.

If you know how to code, you can just write Python, C, Java, R, PHP, whatever for free and make things. You may not own the tools of production, but at least you're not renting them.

If you have been deskilled so you only know how to vibe code, you will be paying for that privilege forever.

This also goes, by the way, for researchers who are starting to be convinced they don't need to learn how to be scientists anymore, because "the AI" can just do the science for them. Nope.

I got fed up of Docker Desktop alway crashing WSL2 and uninstalled it. Replaced it with Docker CE the same as my other environments.

Now my Windows startup is instant, I don't have the fan whirring all the time and things are generally snappier.

I can always run Portainer if I need a GUI.

I'm shocked and horrified that someone got arrested at today's Critical Mass ride in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It seemed random and arbitrary, and could have happened to anyone of us.

They are in last few frames of this video, on the left of the screen, managing traffic for safety.

These rides are peaceful, they've been held on the last Friday of the month for 20 years or more.

Pre Facebook it was a great tool to discover talented photographers, mostly amateur. With a square aspect ratio, a handful of basic filters and no way to upload a manipulated image, it depended upon composition.

Now it is just garbage.

Employers: Everyone must return to the office, because we work best when people collaborate face-to-face.
