I’m very close to finishing my 100% commentary of the source code for #Elite on the #Apple II (to reach a full house of all #6502 Elite disassemblies). Just some dashboard and disk routines to go - maybe done in 1-2 weeks?

@dashie Does Oldbytes also have a pixelfed instance?
@lankeeone You should be mostly fine. Raspbian or whatever it’s called is or used to be descended from Debian which is solid. It’s Linux and the skills will transfer.
@lecroix74 @AdamSher Can you screen share? That’s all I’m really concerned about.
@lecroix74 @AdamSher Has anyone had luck running it in a windows vm or is that madness? How lacking is the web client, which I’ve always avoided?
Is Zoom finicky in #fedora #kde for everybody or just me? About half a year ago I went back to windows because no matter how I installed it, it’d lock up, not see devices, etc. Returned to Fedora with a fresh install this week and … Zoom’s being Zoom. I became a running joke at work as the sysadmin who couldn’t get Zoom to work. Which is admittedly funny.
@mos_8502 Your mention of Jellyfin reminds me that I’ve been collecting Nicolas cage movies on mine that I need to watch.
@mos_8502 Doesn’t mastodon take a surprising amount of horsepower and bandwidth to host?
@Hundstrasse Every programmer should have to write at least one Ray Caster in their life. Despite the generational difference, some of the terms from modern 3-D engines suddenly makes so much more sense now.
#ZXSpectrum update: OMFG I think I managed to get my raycasting engine to work. It's rudimentary and slow, but I did it by spending a long time with a notepad and pen and mashing hex into a 40 year old home computer! My first bit of "Machine Language" (Thanks William Tang)
Now I just need to speed it up and add in... Movement 😅
This actually went well. Ended up trading it to somebody for a fully upgraded and kitted out Atari 800XL which is what I *really* wanted. And the dude got a fairly rare item that he can upgrade and resell for even more. And I originally paid $100 for it so a win for everybody.

I love it but it’s better suited to a real 8-bit fan than a filthy casual like me who just wants to tinker so I’m also looking for a comparable 8-bit + gubbins as trade.
@mos_8502 you’re smart. I want to learn discrete logic, like using shift registers and stuff to convert game controllers from one protocol to another. Is there software to simulate that stuff before I start buying parts and breadboarding?
I just got a great Famicom joystick I’d love to use on PC Engine as well and that seemed a good excuse to learn.
#linux question: is there a way to see how caching/writes/etc are actually working on a system? MiSTerFPGA doesn’t write save ram to disk until the user prompts, presumably to remove the risk of corruption and reduce writes to the sdcard since save ram gets updated so often.
The thing about having Linux as a hobby is that very often I will do a thing, mostly by RTFM, get it working how I want, and then I won't have to touch it again for a year (or many). If I do need to do the same thing again, I have to teach myself how to do it all over again.
I guess it beats the alternative.
@Gwendolyn I seem to recall the emulation having some pretty noticeable input lag. :/
@movq Not advent of code but I wanna learn to write a game for my Atari 7800.
@FiveEyeTea I didn’t hop between too many to be honest. I normally use Debian if I just need “a Linux” to run as a server or something but I chose Fedora because I needed more up to date drivers and software for my desktop.
@FiveEyeTea Fedora KDE is good stuff. It’d still be my daily driver if not for how horrible Zoom acted and the poor support for my Intel gpu.
