I just tagged version 0.2.0 of OLS, my experimental local #location server. It's a bit over-configurable and under-documented, but may be of interest to technical users who want to play with location services on Linux. Get it from #Codeberg.
Hey, check out the new gPodder #podcatcher release 3.11.5 featuring a new subscription statistics extension, Podverse search and system dark/light mode support on Linux.
Download the installer, get it from #Flathub on Linux, or wait a while for packages in your distro. Also available as an adaptive version for #mobileLinux.
A new project-like thing: Siltamesh is a bridge server which forwards messages between meshtastic and XMPP channels.
If you have a meshtastic radio connected to a computer, it allows you to send and receive meshtastic messages with your favorite XMPP client over the internet. A specialized client is not needed, except for radio configuration.
Two-way bridging works only for private channels at the moment, but this may change in the future.

I released a new version of my GPS app Satellite (and its sister app Geobug). The release features a renewed UI with the latest gizmos from GTK4 and libadwaita. Get it from flathub or direct from git.
Happy tracking!
The incredible thing about Trump’s win is that he increased support across major demographics since the 2020 election.
The biggest swings being people 18-44, Asian and Hispanic voters. Harris only saw slight gains in college educated women and people 65+ from Biden’s win in 2020 but it’s so slight it might as well be within a margin of error.
It turns out I’ve been living in a bubble the past few years while everyone else was like “Trump? Why not give him another try?” 🤔
Good news everyone! Geoclue 2.7.2 is out.
Now for the bad news: Although alternatives exist, the shutdown of Mozilla Location Services (#MLS) basically crippled #Geoclue for devices without a GPS.
Help is on the way though, code for a GeoIP location source is being developed, and it should make it easy to add different providers. Please see the MR here:
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/geoclue/geoclue/-/merge_requests/186
Testing, comments, patches and suggestions for GeoIP providers are welcome!

#beaconDB just hit 500k WiFi networks!! 🎉
It is insane how much data the community is collecting at such an early stage. I've just published a low resolution map so users get a rough idea of coverage: https://beacondb.net/map/
Yay! Got the imx363 rear camera working in my Poco F1 (SDM845) running a near mainline kernel! 🎉 Here is a quick demo of Megapixels and Snapshot camera apps running at 1080p resolution. Full resolution of 4032 x 3024 is kind of buggy with only 2016 x 3024 pixels stretched into 4032 x 3024. Needs some work before wider use by community though. An important milestone for SDM845 devices nevertheless! 😇
@pocketvj You need at least MM 1.23.2 for the SIMless GPS to work.
@pocketvj Warmed up GPS means that the receiver has some idea on where the satellites are. Since you don't have a SIM, assisted GPS does not work, and the receiver needs to download the orbit data from the satellites. This usually takes about 15 min if the device is completely cold.
Just leave a GPS app running until you get a fix.
@pocketvj The 'gnss-share-geoclue' package ships a config snippet which enables gnss-share with geoclue, but in addition you should disable the 'modem-gps' source in main geoclue.conf.
gnss-share needs to be configured to use the 'mm' driver (`/etc/gnss-share.conf`)
Also, make sure you have a warmed up GPS. You can check the GPS state with by app 'Satellite' (see flathub), or just by doing `nc -U /run/gnss-share.sock' if you can read NMEA :)
@pocketvj It should work on all GPS devices supported by MM.
Geoclue and other MM clients need to modified to support this. There are still some issues with the Geoclue MM client code, but gnss-share 0.8.1 already has support and you can configure Geoclue to use it as a GPS source.
@bert_hubert This would be very interesting to mobile Linux projects (and maybe also for de-Googled androids). By infrastructure, do you mean AGPS MSA/MSB servers, or almanac and ephemeris data upload like Qualcomm XTRA?
Do you have an old #PinePhone lying in the cupboard?
Dev versions of #ModemManager now support #GPS without a SIM card. Consumers of the MM API need some changes for this, so I submitted pull requests to #Geoclue (https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/geoclue/geoclue/-/merge_requests/173), gnss-share (https://gitlab.com/postmarketOS/gnss-share/-/merge_requests/15), and my own simple #GNSS app Satellite (https://codeberg.org/tpikonen/satellite/releases) (all 3 in different languages).
Soon it will be possible to use SIMless mobile phones for things like navigation and fitness tracking.
Good news everyone! The gPodder media RSS reader / podcast client / podcatcher had a bugfix release (3.11.3) last week (subscriptions to youtube user ID URLs now work, yay!).
I also made a release of the adaptive UI version for all your portable podcast needs on #mobileLinux. Get it from #flathub: https://flathub.org/apps/org.gpodder.gpodder-adaptive
I tested the Jogger #mobileLinux fitness tracking app in the spirit of #coffeeneuring with a bike ride to a true classic of the #Helsinki coffee scene, Kaffa roastery.
The app has some rough edges, but is totally usable already, after being out for about a week.
I released a small update (version 0.4.2) to Satellite, my simple #GPS / #GNSS app for #MobileLinux: https://codeberg.org/tpikonen/satellite (also in #Flathub).
The visible changes are the addition of 'Geoidal separation' field to the display data and a more compact display of various DOP values. As usual, there are also some small bugs fixed, and an update to the Gnome SDK version 45 in the flatpak package.
