Andy

Hallo, hi, bonjour. I’m striving to become a Humane Technologist while working as UX designer, researcher and accessibility professional.

Tooting for
#HumaneTech, #Usability, #Accessibility, #a11y, #UserExperience, #FOSS

Any recommendations on data oriented remote courses for #userresearch ?

- User behaviour analytics, effective use
- Excel pivot tables and charts
- Statistical methods to manage confidence

I have a math background and Excel formulas don't have many secrets for me. Already using analytics and doing first analysis in path explorations.

Thanks!

@agenda_du_libre désolé mais les cafés GNU/Linux au 51, c'est fini. Le 51 devait fermer ):

Great holiday read for all web workers: The HTTP Archive’s Web Almanach 2024!

It includes some great insights on popular CMS’ impacts on #accessibility #webperformance and the #environment #sustainableIT

Ever wonder which #figma frame size to design with in #uidesign?

I do frequently, so I crunched some numbers again. How about a guessing game before I reveal the results?

Which percentage of European web traffic do you think Figma’s top choice for frame size, 430×932 px (iPhone 14 & 15 Pro Max), represents?

@eaganj Thanks for the reply! I didn’t take the step yet to formalise hypothesises. All of your statements are very interesting factors in this effect (should it exist). Research of any of them would be interesting.

@kramo Congratulations!

I’m looking for proof in form of studies, but can’t seem to find any:

I think it’s common #usability knowledge, that users find more errors in their texts in a read-only view or “print layout”, compared to the editor.

To find relevant studies, I can’t seem to find the right search terms. Can somebody help me out?

I'm sick of justifying ethical behavior in terms of profit. We use phrases like "adding alt-text brings more customers to your site" or "protected bike lanes increase revenue for local businesses."

You should add alt-text descriptions to images because it helps people.

We need to build bike lanes because it makes cities safer and more accessible.

Reduce carbon emissions because it's the right thing to do! Discussing these things in purely economic terms misses the point.

@Anne73939133 @warandpeas Nice. In which corner of the city can I find it?

@kgajos @Figma would you claim they were the first ones?

So, linking selected text by pasting a URL is a new #bestpractice in #uidesign that I appreciate a lot.
I wonder who did it first? I’m seeing it in @Figma and Dovetail, so far.
Do you know any other tools who already adopted that #designpattern ?

@breiter @dotjayne did punch cards actually have 80 characters line length? It seems too long for paper cards

@eeeps @ashur @keithjgrant I see.
I suggest for German:

Ok lach nicht
(Ok don't laugh)

I'll try to find something English

@ashur @keithjgrant @eeeps
Pretty nice one, unfortunately it's very US centric if I don't misunderstand the reference to Oklahoma.

@aardrian @wtrmt basically the same thing.

Flattering your ego to get nice response rates while your profile doesn't really match the job description. I get those regularly.

@aardrian I doubt that AI can be any more superficial than the recruiters that regularly praise my interesting profile. So nothing is lost d:

@aardrian @ashleemboyer I share your frustration. As a consultant I find myself explaining the same basics to large clients since 10 years. It feels like we didn't progress, but only more web applications. Not better ones ):
