Maybe if #universities were treated as places of learning to learn and think critically instead of certifications for the job market and substitutes to employers investing in staff, students would be better equipped to question and challenge #AIhype and less inclined to think something like #ChatGPT is a reliable replacement for library-style research skills.

The problem as I see it is very much not the information or technology itself, but the very real ways in which corporations have poured billions of dollars into hijacking the #brain. After a month on #Mastodon, I think decentralized, not for profit social media like the #fediverse is the massive, accidental #PublicHealth intervention we really need right now.

After just a month away from #twitter, I'm only now starting to appreciate how extremely damaging these content delivery #algorithms are. The more I talk to younger people about their relationship to #SocialMedia, the more lean towards #policy which would put substantive constraints on companies who knowingly manipulate the human reward/dopaminergic system. The wholesale import of all the vile tools of the casino industry into the distribution of information is truly wrecking our brains.

A little disappointed that we're using #AcademicMastodon. #AcademicFedi or #AcademicToots when #Macademia was RIGHT THERE.
