video sequence editor is obviously made for video editing, #blender is rich and more a platform than solely usable for one task

#blender does it in a smart way
proxies are in the same folder as the original file, creates a folder BL_proxy and for each file another folder.

this is the best location and frankly the only one that makes sense.

I'm evaluating #ShotCut on #linux,
step 1 set project folder to a location, where all my data is, not in users home folder by the way

step 2 added files
step 3 edit a little, navigating source files is sluggish
step 4 activated proxies

#ShotCut has proxy storage set to use project folder

guess where proxies appear, yes in my home folder 🤪
