Since Stephens’ speech, our communal reaction has been too focused on the smaller-scale issues he raised. Was his critique of the #ADL reasonable? Was he right that #Jews are hated because of our “virtues and successes,” and that antisemitism is too powerful for appeals to tolerance and education to work? By focusing on such questions, we risk missing the bigger picture. Antisemitism will never be fully eradicated. Still, if, as one study suggests, some 45% of #Republicans under the age of 44 feel that Jews are a threat to the #American way of life, the answer can’t be to shrug."

"Since #Hamas’ #October7 #terrorist attack, many #Jewish #faculty at #colleges and #universities across the country have been describing their professional lives in language more commonly associated with #trauma than #academic disagreement. In a nationwide #survey of more than 200 Jewish-identifying #US-based faculty conducted between April and July of 2025 by the #AcademicEngagementNetwork (#AEN) and the #AntiDefamationLeague (#ADL), respondents spoke of fear, isolation, and a loss of belonging on their own #campuses.

One Jewish faculty member starkly described the experience: “I’m being attacked online…I have been ostracized by faculty in a smear campaign. I have been advised…not to come to #campus…this is as bad as it gets.” Another shared, “faculty are not talking to me because they know I’m a #Zionist.” And another participant confided, “I am being attacked in all directions, and I no longer feel safe on campus.”

And these aren’t isolated incidents."

Zohran Mamdani is set to host the mayor’s interfaith breakfast on Friday, keeping alive an annual tradition that brings together hundreds of religious leaders - but Jewish involvement in the event will look different this time around.

That’s because at least three groups that have sponsored the last few editions of the event - UJA-Federation of New York, the New York Board of Rabbis, and the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) - are not sponsoring this year’s.

“For years, ADL has proudly sponsored the NYC Mayor’s annual Interfaith Breakfast as a vital opportunity to build bridges and foster understanding across New York City’s diverse faith communities. This year, ADL was not invited to attend,” said Scott Richman, regional director of ADL New York and New Jersey.
