Phenology (sometimes called “nature’s calendar”) and senescence refers to the process by which trees and other deciduous plants put on and drop their leaves. If they do so at the wrong times, the results can be catastrophic, e.g., trees still in leaf in the fall can be brought down by early-season snow events.
