Description of #ARRLFD station for 2025. Quick blog write up for this year’s field day operating event. Station overview: QRP (5 W), 100% Natural Power, One Radio, One operator, CW contacts only.

Plan to pull together logs and complete the ARRL submission next. (Will update blog listing with submission details and score results as well.)

Thanks to all for the FD contacts. Had a lot of fun with CW again this year!

#ARRLFD memories… It’s been two days since working any CW contacts and realizing that morse code is still being heard occasionally — in the sound of a running ceiling fan, in the car while driving down the road, even while hearing a distant train horn with a rumbling freight train background. Have noticed this also in years past shortly after the field day event. Could it be CW withdrawal? 73

Looks like I finished #FieldDay with 103 contacts

not a ton, but a decent amount 🙂

especially for being an unplanned 1D, lol

Field Operations Enabler: The lowly accessory plug (previously called a cigarette lighter plug) to Power Pole adapter. Power jacks are available in many vehicles, but importantly available in many portable power packs. Have two sets of these adapters and used one for the #ARRLFD event to power the IC-705 and LDG IT-100 tuner. Wrapping up field day is a great time to review your emergency kit and ensure you have all the adapters/cables needed to operate away from home. #HamRadio #Emergency

Our last and 184th Field Day contact was our 9-year-old daughter closing the deal with W0ZRT in ND for the youth bonus points! #ARRLFD #AmateurRadio #HamRadio

#ARRLFD That’s a wrap for this year’s Field Day event. Station disassembled and ready for put-away until next portable operation. Made 49 1B QRP Natural Power CW contacts on 40, 20, 15, and 10 meters. Will share a FD post with lots of pictures and additional info later up on my qsl.net site. Off to Family Sunday activities! Thanks for all the contacts. 73 from EN52TD Chicagoland! #HamRadio

#ARRLFD Moved to 50.025 CW. 20 wpm - will QRS. Zzzzz…

Looks like 5 watts is not enough…

Attempt to make some #hamradio contacts on 5 watts, 40m, 80m, and 20m from the top of a hill (at night). Not successful, but got to try out the antenna support I scored either from a garage sale or a trash bin (light bulb changing pole!!). Support works great! #fieldday #ARRLFD

Almost dinner time. We had 33 GOTA contacts from scouts and guests. Here are pics of our VHF/UHF and HF antennas and a visit from State Assemblymember Mike Fong. #ARRLFD

@ai6yr

There is a group up at Chews Ridge Lookout this weekend. This is their 61st year up there -- since high school days! And yes, they get a permit in advance from the USFS.

So far, just 16 contacts for me on field day, but with the 5 watt multiplier that's the equivalent of 80 contacts... (will try some later if I get more time away from family obligations) #hamradio #ARRLFD #FieldDay

#ARRLFD Things must be going well to have finished the second log page (20 per) but still no contacts on 6 meters and only two on 10 meters. Currently on 20m working south and west from here in Chicagoland EN52. Having fun on CW though. Starting to get the hang of it again… It’s really nice having (temporary) an outdoor antenna instead of the indoor magnetic loop. The IC-705 at 5W is doing OK into the delta loop in the backyard. #HamRadio

Several ham radio operators under a pop up shelter with a folding table, operating a radio and chatting with one another. There is a banner with a cartoon narwhal that reads "No one is talking to aliens" as well as a progress pride flag and a Cascadia flag (blue, white, green stripes and a outline of a Douglas fir)

#AudioMo day 28:

I finally attended my first Field Day in a park near the Ohio border. Here is a clip of making some contacts on 15 meters CW running as W9TE. In the background you can hear the outdoors, other people in the distance, and a nearby generator. #HamRadio #ARRLFD

Good luck to the Stafford Amateur Radio Association and the Rappahannock Valley Amateur Radio Club operating nine transmitters with emergency power at Curtis Park in Stafford County, VA for this weekend’s annual #ARRLFD. They’re all radio active as K4TS. arrl.org/field-day
