It took over a year, and I started during my bout of COVID, when I didn't yet have adequate tools, but I have finished this rocker blotter. It is made of walnut woods, including the screw (although I do not know what KIND of walnut that dowel is—it was sold simply as "walnut"). Most of it is made from sappy black walnut scrap wood.
It is finished (except the screw, which is oiled) with one coat of a low viscosity epoxy, because the sappy black walnut was soft (squishy, really) without a hard finish.
People wonder where to get blotter paper in this day and age. Watercolor paper. Paper for watercolor painting. It is the same thing.

It was a wonderful day in the park, board game & picnic with partner, who has been so stressed and busy with work. Glad we had a wonderful holiday date day ! Absolutely at capacity now, but well worth it. The game is very good too!!

The river-tablish epoxy shelf is serving a purpose.
I am beaten to a pulp, though. I'm a disabled guy, not a craftsperson.
Despite being cranky due to chronic pain, I think I have finished this shelf. Now to find somewhere to mount it.
Yes, it is sort of like a river table. I hope the thin scraps of black walnut provide enough tensile strength to keep the shelf from sagging or cracking. (I expect it would sag rather than crack.) The supports are oiled and waxed red cedar.
(I do not get Botox shots until June 11. That helps with the chronic migraine and thus also with runny nose.)

Henry Pancake, goofing. This dog, this animal, has saved my life more times than I can count & in more ways than I know. His energy & spirit are boundless. He knows how to cheer us up by dive bombing the ground with his snout & rolling. It snaps me out of my funk (there are many times I have the wrong funk, the low funk) & puts me in the present.
