ICM, which was created by #Palantir, 'integrates a vast ecosystem of public and private data to track down immigrants and, in many cases, deport them.' The data includes 'a person’s immigration history, family relationships, personal connections, addresses, phone records, biometric traits, and other information.' Through Palantir, AWS receives millions of dollars annually from the federal government to host ICM. Last April, the Trump administration awarded Palantir a new $30 million contract to create '#ImmigrationOS,' which is 'a new tool to provide [ICE] with enhanced capabilities to support deportation efforts.' ImmigrationOS is likely hosted on AWS, which has a strategic partnership with Palantir."

Amazon lanza una nube soberana europea para responder a las preocupaciones sobre la seguridad de los datos
Amazon Web Services ha presentado un nuevo servicio de nube ubicado íntegramente en Europa, diseñado para garantizar la soberanía y el control de los datos. La iniciativa busca ofrecer a empresas y administraciones una alternativa independiente frente a los proveedores tecnológicos con sede en Estados Unidos.
Una nube pensada para la soberanía europea
Amazon Web Services ha anunciado el lanzamiento de AWS European Sovereign Cloud, un nuevo servicio en la nube cuyos centros de datos estarán situados exclusivamente en territorio europeo y operarán de forma separada del resto de la infraestructura global de la compañía.
Según AWS, esta nube estará aislada tanto a nivel físico como legal de sus sistemas con sede en Estados Unidos, lo que permitirá que continúe funcionando incluso en escenarios extremos, como una desconexión de la Unión Europea de Internet o una hipotética prohibición estadounidense de exportaciones de software.
El trasfondo legal y político
El movimiento responde a una inquietud creciente entre usuarios europeos, especialmente administraciones públicas y sectores estratégicos, sobre el acceso legal a los datos almacenados por proveedores estadounidenses. En particular, la Ley CLOUD de Estados Unidos permite a las autoridades exigir acceso a datos gestionados por empresas con sede en el país, incluso si estos se encuentran almacenados fuera de su territorio.
Este marco legal ha impulsado la búsqueda de soluciones que garanticen un mayor control local de la información sensible y refuercen la autonomía digital europea.
Competencia en un mercado sensible
AWS no es el único actor que ha reaccionado a estas demandas. Microsoft ha adaptado sus servicios para permitir que los datos de clientes europeos se almacenen exclusivamente en centros ubicados en Europa, mientras que Google anunció recientemente inversiones multimillonarias en infraestructuras de datos en Alemania.
La competencia entre los grandes proveedores de nube se intensifica así en un segmento donde la seguridad jurídica y la soberanía de los datos se han convertido en factores decisivos.
Inversión y despliegue inicial
El primer centro de datos de la nueva nube soberana de AWS se está construyendo en el estado alemán de Brandeburgo, en el entorno de Berlín. La compañía prevé extender el proyecto a otras regiones de Alemania y a distintos países europeos.
En total, AWS ha comprometido una inversión superior a los 7.800 millones de euros para respaldar el despliegue de esta infraestructura en el continente durante los próximos años.
Operación bajo control europeo
Uno de los elementos clave del proyecto es su modelo de gobernanza. La nube soberana europea será operada y supervisada por una empresa con sede en Alemania, cuyo consejo directivo y asesor estará formado por ciudadanos de la Unión Europea. A medio plazo, todos los empleados vinculados a esta operación deberán contar también con ciudadanía europea.
AWS asegura que el servicio incorporará controles específicos, garantías de soberanía y salvaguardas legales alineadas con los requisitos gubernamentales y empresariales europeos para el tratamiento de datos confidenciales.
Un servicio sin cliente objetivo definido
Desde AWS señalan que la nube soberana no está pensada para un tipo concreto de cliente, sino como una opción adicional dentro de su catálogo, orientada a quienes requieran los máximos niveles de control, cumplimiento normativo y resiliencia.
Con este anuncio, Amazon refuerza su apuesta por el mercado europeo de computación en la nube y se alinea con una tendencia clara: la creciente demanda de infraestructuras digitales que combinen escalabilidad tecnológica con soberanía y seguridad jurídica.
