If you use account keys or connection strings to access Azure resources, there is a better way!

User Assigned Managed Identities () are more secure and less work to "manage", because you really don't have to maintain them once they are setup.

In this demo we setup connectivity from an to an Azure and using UAMI's, showing the .Net code changes required to successfully connect to multiple resources. It isn't difficult!

Anyone experiencing weird HTTP 500 errors on Azure ? [1]
Some users get (mostly on PUT requests) an "Http 500" error in our Angular SPA accessing its origin. There's nothing shown in any logs as if the request doesn't get to the backend.

We are moving to SiteGround!

Hello, ITSG readers! We have some exciting news to share with you today. We are migrating our blog from WordPress Azure App Service to SiteGround WordPress / Web hosting provider!

Why are we doing this?

Well, there are several reasons. First of all, we have been unhappy with the price of Azure App Service. It is too expensive for our needs and we don’t get enough value for our money. Second, we have been frustrated with the speed of our site. It takes too long to load and goes offline every time we post. Third, we have been overwhelmed with the extra work that comes along with hosting a WordPress site in Azure App Service. We have to deal with a lot when it comes to scaling up the database / app service plan puts the price of running the site at an unjustifiable amount.

That’s why we decided to switch to SiteGround. SiteGround is a hosting provider that specializes in WordPress sites. They offer fast, reliable, and secure hosting at an affordable price. They also take care of everything for us: they install and update WordPress, they backup and restore our site, they protect us from hackers and malware, they optimize our site for performance and SEO, and they provide us with 24/7 support at a price that works for us. SiteGround is also an officially recognised WordPress.org self-hosting platform.

During the transfer we attempted to use SiteGround Migrator but in the end had to use All-in-One WP Migration WordPress plugin to transition the site over. This was due to the Azure App Service file or folder permissions. As the site was containerised it was very difficult to set or change the file permissions to 644 and folder permissions to 755. Hopefully I’ll explain in more detail in another post.

We think this is a great move for us and for you, our loyal readers. You will enjoy a faster and smoother browsing experience on our blog. You will also benefit from the new features and improvements that SiteGround offers.

We will write a more detailed blog post soon about how and why we migrated our site from Azure App Service to SiteGround. We will share our challenges, lessons learned, and tips for anyone who wants to do the same. Stay tuned for that!

In the meantime, thank you for your patience and understanding as we make this transition. We hope you will love our new home as much as we do!

Its not the app.

Trying to assist the network guys with Azure.

The azure app service cannot connect to the on-prem DB.

They keep playing with the connection string in the portal AND the appSettings.json.

Then they save it with syntax errors, we get 500.30 errors and they say its the app.

Its not the app.

I fix the syntax errors and we're at square one.

When you use #Azure #SignalR #Service with a multi-instance Azure #AppService, do you need #RedisCache or not?
