Same shit, different car.

The EPB appears innocent. This one seems to be just stuck pads from sheer accumulation of dirt (the roads out here range from terrible to nonexistant, although we do try to stay off the gravel roads if possible). German cars are not made for this.

I had pressure washed this sometime before the first frost, which was less than 2 months ago or so? So all that crud is since then, plus now with road salt added 😬

Took it all apart, cleaned and just on putting the second side back together. Hopefully that'll sort it. Would be nice to have at least one working car 😩

A rear wheel brake, partially disassembled. The caliper is removed, sitting on top, the mounting bracket with the pads still installed on the disc.Everything is dirty and crusty.Same brake, now disassembled completely, with the pads, mounting bracket and disc removed, only the wheel hub remains. The mounting bracket, grimy and with very dirty glide pads that may have been the issue. The guide bolts under their bellows were ok but got cleaned and regreased anyways. The funky vibration dampener the Astra has instead of a regular bolt on the bottom of the rear brake.

Pried off the door panel and yup, water. Not a lot, but some and also dirt tracks from previous leakage.

Modern cars are kinda funny because the water runs through the door, by design. That transparent plastic foil is the wall between inside and outside.

It has detached in several places, so when it rains hard, which it had, the drain holes in the bottom of the door cannot dump the water fast enough and the door fills up, releasing water from those detached spots.

The model also had a problem with the door drains blocking completely, but that has already been remedied previously.

Gooped up and reassembled. We'll see next time there's a lot of rain.

Now to figure out how to dry the floor 🙄

There's a speaker on the left. A large gap in the inner steel part is covered with a semi-transparent whiteish piece of thick plastic foil. It has many gaps all around where the adhesion of the plastic to the metal has failed and smal gaps have opened. Some of these had water droplets in them. Various plastic clips and cables and a bowden cable are routed in the door.Close-up of one of the failed areas. Not all have detached completely, but this one goes all the way through and there are water droplets visible inside the semi-transparent plastic sheet. A blue plastic clip is stuck in the door and needs transferring to the panel.

Playing a fun game today called "Why is there water in the car?"

Is it from a blocked ventilation drain? Nope.

Is the windshield leaking? Nope.

Did it leave traces? Yup, but pouring lots of water everywhere does not reproduce them 🤷

It might also have come from the door cable conduit, although that looks tight. I silicone'd it some anyways, just in case.

Next up, take the door panel off, although it does not seem to be leaking now, it might have during the waterfall rain we had.

Also possible that someone didn't close the door or window completely and I'm just wasting my time here.

Especially with the dumb hold-button-to-open-windows feature that does trigger with the key in the pocket occasionally.

There are a few holes in the metal under some removed plastic trim. One of them has traces of old water running down alongside it, but it is unclear where it originates from. At first it appears to have come from the hole, but that doesn't make sense due to the lower holes and upon closer look the water starts to the left in a fold under some foam and may have been dripping onto there from above.
