I think there's a book to be written on the afterlife of #Atari based on the goldmine that is the #AtariAge forum.
The world will be a poorer place if the database underlying that forum is irretrievably lost. It's such a hodgepodge of nuggets of tribal knowledge. Several entire "Missing Manual"s-worth of valuable information on hardware, emulators, programming languages old and new and much more.

I'm really enjoying #FastBasic on #atari8bit! It feels much more modern* than other languages on the platform, and the native IDE booting from BW-DOS has just enough utility to make it viable to write code on an Atari 800 or equivalent. (I miss vi's 'join' and a search and replace utility, but the edit/save/run cycle feels very natural.)
FastBasic's author is active on #AtariAge, and has also contributed to the recent 1.5 release of BW-DOS, in conjunction with Jiří Bernášek, the original author of BW-DOS.
It's extraordinary; the #retrocomputing scene is more lively and robust than ever, between new hardware add-ons and new programming languages.

Big shout out to #BeebleBrox over on #AtariAge for some kind and helpful advice on where to go next with my gorgeous #Atari #130XE with dead console keys.
Thanks to their guidance, I was able to identify my keyboard type and confidently open it up to examine the Mylar membrane. At first glance it looked pristine, but on closer visual inspection and doing continuity checks with a multimeter, I found a break - which someone else had thoughtfully highlighted for me!
I've ordered a new membrane from #Retrohax_de, which seems to be the same https://retronics.eu membrane as sold by https://retrolemon.co.uk.
(The membrane available from https://www.retrofuzion.com appears to be for the rubber dome version, comparing it with the other variant from retrolemon, though they don't say.)
I'd never have figured all this out without the kindness of strangers. Thank you, Beeblebrox. And the mystery person who had inspected this membrane before and highlighted the break!

Received my copy of #Penult in #cartridge form today. It's a #demake of #ultima for the #Atari2600, an #OpenWorld #RPG, I'm amazed that a game like this can run on my original 1977 #VideoGame machine. It was cutting edge to run Ultima on an #apple2 when it first came out in 1981. It even comes with an official cloth map. Super cool, thanks to #AtariAge and the developer. Maybe I should get it running in VR :-) Does anyone know where I can get an #Atarivox so I can save my game.
