Climate activist #gretathunberg will now not attend the #Edinburgh Intl Book Festival because it receives sponsorship from the #bailliegifford investment firm, which “invests heavily in the #fossilfuel industry,” says Ms Thunberg. The sponsorship of cultural events allows the fossil fuel industry to maintain “social license to continue operating”— a form of #greenwashing — while still exacerbating the #climatecrisis we are experiencing.
Always been fascinated by the weird collection of people who make up Exor (which owns the Economist among other things). Seems like they love to collect money from publicly listed French Insurers #covea and recycle cash into the families other ventures. Now they have added a former #Bailliegifford PM to their roster along with #osborne. Keep an eye on these guys.
