I have an idea for a project in R. I could track my read books and use the data to create a map of the countries the authors are from or where the book is set. And an idea I have for quite a while now, since I was introduced to it at a course during my master’s degree: Bechdel test for the novels I’ve read. But i never take notes so I have to rely on memory or others and of course start taking notes now. #BechdelTest #RStats #books

We deliberated - clearly lots of scenes with women talking to each other, but a lot of the substance of what they say also relates to men.
But ultimately they do also talk a lot about maths, engineering and racial and gender segregation …so we decided in the end it does pass!
One of the many great things about John Allison's comics is how they consistently pass the Bechdel test, as a matter of course.

Just realized that Captain America: Brave New World (2025) fails the Bechdel test, like, _hard_.
There are basically only two women in the entire movie, and they're not talking to each other, even though they're working at the same place. And one of them doesn't get introduced until half an hour into the movie.

Ne vous fiez pas à son pitch ultra classique (le Président des États-Unis est assassiné, son responsable de la sécurité mène l'enquête) car le premier épisode se termine en dévoilant un univers original qui promet d'être riche en rebondissements.
Bon casting et bon compromis intrigues révélations.
A noter que Paradise propose de nombreux personnages féminins de pouvoir ou scientifiques, sans connotation sexuelle, sans caricature et ce n'est même pas un sujet dans la série.

"Le Dîner de cons" est un gigantesque boy's club. Femmes potiches, bromances dégoûtantes. Les talents de clown de Villeret ou Prevost et la maigre revanche de classe esquissée à la fin ne rattrappent pas grand-chose à une comédie mascu de bout en bout.
J'ai tenté de la revoir avec mes années en plus.

family movie nite: watched GOOD WILL HUNTING for the first time since, what, 1997? 98? the first 15 minutes had me cringing at the close-but-still-no-cigar hollywood depiction of Wicked Smaht people, and the rest was riveting. pity about the #BechdelTest but let’s not ask the impossible; minnie driver’s effortlessly natural performance as The Girl is manic, pixie-ish, and dreamy, but she lifts every scene she’s in. and the older men are wonderful.

#TheLincolnLawyer sorry but no, saw only episode 1-1 but maybe I thought too much about #Bechdeltest but to the point that he has contact to two ex wives that meat and only can talk about him. And his daughter too is only interested in him. This is so 80s... besides that some nice humor, but the hole thing is just not bareable to me any more.
tl;dr: Eight hours of my life, gone forever.
If you're looking for an unremarkable nuclear apocalypse/doomsday adventure series which is mild-to-moderately insulting to one's intelligence, a reader can do better than Akart's "Nuclear Winter First Strike," unfortunately the first in a series. It seems Akart writes what he knows. The target audience may be over 50 cis/het white males, far from the book's only shortcoming.
- Does the hero/protagonist get the girl?
- Can the families quickly approximate a prepper approach as nukes begin dropping?
- Can a reader care about any of this?
There's a sprinkling of transphobia and normalizing right-wing authoritarian/propaganda of Fox "News" & one of their white supremacist opinion hosts. This may be fine with over a third or more of right-leaning adults in North America, or literate racists as a whole, and repugnant for others.
If you can simultaneously hold your nose while reading, suppress any instinct to vomit, while also ignoring the technical shortcomings, (with a scat-tering of grammatical & spelling failures), and the tragic material which endeavors to approach a middle school reading level, yet ultimately falls short of a YA target audience, then grab the gallon-size Pepto Bismol & read away.
