Billy Mitchell KHSE → Marine Corps Auxiliary Landing Field Bogue KNJM

I traveled south along North Carolina’s coast with the TBM. Long stretches of sandy beaches and strong wind gusts stood out as the most striking features of this brief journey.

A small single-engine propeller airplane with a white fuselage and dark wings flies shortly after takeoff low over a body of water near a narrow shoreline. The aircraft is positioned just above the water's surface, moving parallel to the coast. Below, the shoreline features a sandy beach bordered by a cluster of houses with varied roof colors, including blue and dark tones, interspersed with trees and open land. Beyond the houses, a dense forest area stretches toward the horizon. The water extends into the distance, merging with a thick layer of fog that obscures the sky and creates a muted, overcast atmosphere. The fog blankets the entire scene, reducing visibility and lending a soft, grayish haze to the landscape. The airplane appears to be on a low - altitude flight path, likely approaching or departing from a nearby landing area. The overall setting is a calm, coastal environment under foggy conditions.A small single-engine propeller aircraft flies above a thick layer of white clouds. The plane, primarily white with a dark tail section, is centered horizontally. The sun shines directly behind the aircraft’s right wing, producing a bright glare that illuminates the barely visible water layer below and casts a distinct shimmering reflection on the surface. Above the cloud deck, the sky is a clear, deep blue with no visible haze. The aircraft is in steady flight, its propeller motion implied but not visible. The cloud layer spans the entire scene horizontally, with no other objects, highlighting the plane’s solitary position against the open sky. The overall scene conveys a serene flight above a vast cloud sea under a clear sky.A small single-engine airplane with a white fuselage and red tail section is in flight, positioned toward the right side of the frame. It appears to be descending or approaching an airport situated on a narrow coastal landmass. The aircraft is above a light-colored sandy beach that runs parallel to the dark blue ocean, where sunlight reflects off the water’s surface, creating a bright pathway of light. The ocean extends to the horizon, with scattered white clouds floating in the clear blue sky above. To the left of the aircraft, the ocean is partially covered by low-lying clouds, while to the right, the water remains deep blue and open. The coastal landmass features a mix of dark green forested areas, brownish terrain, and a visible paved runway near the beach, with smaller clusters of buildings indicating a populated area. In the distance, small islands and rocky outcrops are visible along the coastline, adding geographic detail. The overall scene conveys a calm, sunny day with the aircraft navigating near the coastal region.A single-engine turboprop airplane flies steadily in the sky, landing gear extended, suggesting an approach to land. The aircraft is centered in the frame, viewed from the rear, with wings level and a tail fin visible. Above, the sun shines brightly, casting a clear blue sky with subtle lens flares from the light. Below, the terrain features rolling fields in varying shades of green and brown, interspersed with dense forest areas. A faint haze hovers near the horizon, blending into the distant landscape that includes scattered buildings and winding roads. The scene depicts a serene daytime flight over a rural region, with the aircraft maintaining a stable altitude against the backdrop of open sky and earthy terrain.

Norfolk International KORF → Billy Mitchell KHSE

In the early morning, both the moon and the sun were visible at the same time. The sun was just rising as I flew over Kill Devil Hills – the site of the Wright brothers' work and the location of the first motor-powered flight (last image).

A runway length of only 3,000 feet at Billy Mitchell Airfield and crosswinds made the landing quite a challenge.

Nighttime at an airport runway features a small aircraft centered on the dark tarmac, illuminated by a bright beam of light. The runway displays prominent white markings, including the number "23" visible on the surface. To the left of the aircraft, horizontal white stripes extend along the runway edge, while parallel white lines appear to the right. The scene is set against a pitch-black background, with the lighting highlighting the aircraft and a portion of the runway. The aircraft seems to be taxiing or preparing for departure, positioned under the focused light source. The surrounding area is dimly lit, emphasizing the runway’s markings and the aircraft’s position. The runway surface shows a grid-like pattern, and additional markings like yellow arrows and small red lights are visible near the edge of the image. The overall environment conveys a calm yet focused airport operation under low-light conditions.A small aircraft with a dark body and red tail stripe flies horizontally through a twilight sky. It hovers above a coastal area where the horizon meets the ocean, which displays a gradient of orange to deep blue as the sun sets. Below, a landmass features illuminated urban areas with scattered light points, indicative of buildings and roads, alongside darker patches of fields or forests. The sky transitions from warm orange near the horizon to a darker blue higher up, creating a serene atmosphere. The aircraft appears to be moving smoothly, its silhouette distinct against the colorful backdrop.A small propeller-driven aircraft flies through a twilight sky. The plane has a light-colored fuselage with darker accents on its wings and tail, and its propeller is visible in motion. Above, the sky transitions from warm orange and pink hues near the horizon to a deep blue higher up, with a bright moon positioned near the top center of the frame. Below, a vast expanse of water stretches across the landscape, its surface reflecting the sky’s colors, bordered by darker landmasses that include patches of green fields and faintly illuminated urban areas in the lower right. The horizon shows a soft gradient where the sun has recently set, creating a serene atmosphere with scattered clouds catching the fading light. The aircraft moves horizontally across the scene, its position suggesting a flight path over the water and toward the land. The overall scene conveys a peaceful moment during either dawn or dusk, with the moon adding a celestial element to the tranquil landscape.A white airplane wing dominates the left side of the frame, its underside visible with a black and red stripe near the tip. The wing features a small red circular marking. The plane is in flight, viewed from an interior cabin perspective, with part of the fuselage and engine also visible. Below, a densely lit urban area stretches across the scene, its countless streetlights and buildings glowing against the twilight sky. The city is bordered by a large body of water, with the lights reflecting faintly on the surface. In the distance, a circular structure stands out amid the urban sprawl. The sky above transitions from deep purple to soft pink hues, indicating either early morning or late evening. The wing's edge catches the light, creating a subtle glow along its length. Detroit–New York Junction is an album by American jazz trumpeter Thad Jones recorded on March 13, 1956 and released on Blue Note.

The recording session was one of Tommy Flanagan's first recording sessions after he moved to New York City in 1956, and came one day after the pianist played with the same rhythm section for a Blue Note session led by Kenny Burrell.

AllMusic critic Stephen Thomas Erlewine called Detroit–New York Junction "an excellent set of driving hard bop" - Wikipedia

This Is Billy Mitchell is an album by saxophonist Billy Mitchell, released in 1962 on Smash Records.

The Allmusic review by Scott Yanow stated "Although the tenor saxophonist is in typically fine form on six obscurities and two standards, this record's main significance is that it features the young vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson, who was virtually at the beginning of his career. ... Mainstream hard bop of the era"- Wikipedia

So, apparently the real reason why #TwinGalaxies settled with #BillyMitchell is at least partially because... TG's #lawyers fucked up bad and were caught texting witnesses in the case. They snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

Fortunately, the only real harm is that TG has to host an archive of the old heavily-cheated scoreboard. Still, TG should fire their lawyers for being this incompetent.
