Oh wow, someone finally realized they can turn their into a glorified Google tab! 🤦‍♂️ Because who needs a real window manager when you have ALL the browser tabs? 🚀 Just add more code from GitHub and you're good to go—unless, of course, you want to actually do anything other than browse cat memes. 🐱

Mashable: Google Chrome is testing a big change to tabs. “Google’s flagship web browser is getting a new feature that people already love in other browsers — vertical tabs. The new tab feature is available now as part of the Chrome Canary experimental build for developers, per Windows Report.”

One discipline people in tech world need more then anything is to close the F**** tabs in their browsers.

Why:

  • Frees RAM so we do not all pretend we "need" 128 GB machines.

  • Lets you actually run that local LLM or your music player or Adobe or Oracle products (you do you). For the pentesters this free's up more ram for Burp to eat and not burp :P

  • Lowers cognitive load.

  • Ends the guilt of the tab you have ignored for six weeks.

Solution:

  • Close the damn tab.
  • Finished reading it? Close it.
  • Not ready to work on it? Do not open it yet.
  • Reading later? Bookmark, read‑it‑later app, or let it go.

Set yourself free. RAM returns. Focus returns. Guilt evaporates.

Close the damn tab.

Every day all day I have five different browsers open on my computer, each with its own explicit purpose. Each has an array of tabs that come and go.

In my main browser I opened a second window for some focused work. That has now become a new collection of tabs.

What should I do with the first window, behind the new one?

Matt bravely tackles the monumental challenge of creating that last forever—because we all desperately need browser tabs from 2012 🌐🔗. Turns out, cramming an entire compiler state into a URL just might not be the pinnacle of efficiency 🧐. But fear not, Google has come to the rescue, because who doesn't love outsourcing their problems to the tech overlords? 👾

Engadget: Firefox finally adds tab groups. “Firefox now lets you organize your tabs. Four years after its biggest rivals launched tab groups, Mozilla published a nearly 1,000-word blog post recounting the feature’s long road from user requests to launch. (Consider skipping it if you don’t like long-winded acceptance speeches.)”

Oh, look! Another 𝓹𝓻𝓮𝓽𝓮𝓷𝓽𝓲𝓸𝓾𝓼 blog post dissecting Mozilla's policy changes. 🧐 Apparently, the world needed a deep dive into the pressing issue of browser tab arrangement. 🌐🥱 is here, bravely battling the relentless forces of user choice, one snooze-inducing paragraph at a time. 🚀💤

eieio.games: Running Pong in 240 Browser Tabs . “That’s 240 browser tabs in a tight 8×30 grid. And they’re running pong! The ball and paddles are able to cleanly move between the canvas in the foregrounded window and all of the tabs above.”

I feel like I should get an award or something.

Image displays a screen from the Safari iOS web browser app with "Private" and "500 Tabs" prominently shown, along with options to add tabs (grayed out) and a "Done" button at the bottom.

If you use Firefox on Android - note that there is no easy (or straightforward) way to save / export open tabs / bookmarks / collections of bookmarks

Even syncing your account to a desktop machine doesn't allow you to easily do this.

I discovered this the hard way yesterday so this is just a FYI.

I don't really get why some people have so many tabs open in their browser.
Like hundreds or even more. 👀

How do they even know where to find the tab they used for something?

I have the same four tabs open, in the same order, all the time.

If I open a new tab to search for something or whatever, I get anxious and want to close it as soon as I'm done with it. 🤷🏼‍♂️😅

If somebody is interested in customizing #Mozilla #Firefox via #css

github.com/Aris-t2/CustomCSSfo is a *very* good and modular resource to start.

After closing ~500 #browserTabs still 5633 to do 😄

If somebody is wondering:

* #Mozilla #Firefox on #Fedora #Linux on a #Lenovo T480s.

* Multiple, scrollable tab rows via userChrome.css in my profile (no extension).

* "Auto tab discard" extension sends inactive tabs to sleep (saves a lot of RAM and CPU).

* I close tabs in sessions as there are many topics I research but work on them later. I use closing sessions to transfer them into tickets. I usually have between 2k and 10k tabs around.

Screenshot of a context menu with all tabs of a Firefox browser window selected. It shows that there are 5633 tabs opened.
