Tangent v0.12.0-alpha.2 is out, and is all about stomping bugs! 🦶🐞🪲 🦶

This update cleans up the sharp edges of the alpha 1 release and should be much more pleasant to use.

Thanks to all of the intrepid explorers finding bugs on the alpha branch with me!

v0.12.0-alpha.2
+ Added support for drag-dropping files in the sidebar to root.
- Fixed several bugs and regressions relating to arrow navigation within Queries.
- Fixed a bug where queries that had wiki references after text filters (e.g. Notes
with 'test' and [[Test]]) did not correctly filter data.
- Fixed a regression where Unicode Autocomplete didn't display the options.
- Fixed a regression where closing the details on a virtual note did not select the
note body.
- Fixed a bug where creating a list item above other list items did not correctly
convert those lower items.
- Fixed a regression where notes in the thread did not correctly stack up on the
right.
- Fixed a bug where math required whitespace to the left of the opening character.
- Fixed a bug where wiki link autocomplete with aliases and headers was broken.
- Fixed a bug where the new note button in the Card Lens didn't show up until you
scrolled.

Out of hatred (/jk) for #Markdown, I changed how headings on my #website are compiled to .txt. Now they are even more email-conventional, being all caps with a section tag.

Check out the result on either of my posts, e.g. aartaka.me/lisp-design-pattern

TAM and OMN tools for potential Bonfire workflows

This article looks at Techno Anarchist and Open Media Network tools that would boost efficiency and productivity in Bonfire workflows. And I will be paraphrasing heavily.

As mentioned in a previous TPF post, I plan to experiment with Bonfire and have taken notes for a series of articles.

This is the second one. The first is here if you inexplicably missed it. 😉

I have even reserved the […]

If you use Bookstack as your wiki and want to use its content with LLM agents / chatbots such as NotebookLM, I have described my solution for easy export:

I am planning on automating upload of the final Markdown export to Google Drive.

It’s interesting to contrast a technology like food delivery apps - the epitome of the modern “convenience economy” - with another technology that was also trying hard to make something more convenient for users.

Both “took over the world”, but the design principles and motivations inherent in their creation influenced the effect the technology had on the world.

Delivery apps ruin the lives of users, drivers, and restaurants, while Markdown helped bring about the golden era of blogging and the open web.

In technology, as in everything else, the end does not justify the means.

I always love to read what I call “deepreads”: long reads that go into the history, design, era, and personal circumstances of the creators (and contributors!) of innovative things.

And this one is not even that long!

Most note apps sync through someone else's server. Mine syncs through Git. Your repo, your control, your history. No backend, no lock-in. Works on mobile too!

TIL you can make #Emojis cursive in #Markdown :D

#nyooom #train #BahnBubble #trans

Screenshot of a GitHub issue's "Additional context" section.

"The fact that cursive emojis are a thing is really funny, though."

Normal emojis depicting a train pulled by a steam locomotive

"Stationary train."

Same emojis depicting a train but slanted

"Nyoooming train."

Two slanted trains after another

"Nyoooming trains."

Two slanted trains after another but the cars were replaced with trans flags. It looks as if the steam locomotives are pulling a series of trans flags

"Nyoooming train without the i."

Question to folks who use markdown extensively:
When you work on large texts, over 10 k words, do you split them in multiple md files or do you write in one single monofile?
