Tonight at #Brighton #cafesci: LASERS! 🔫🔫

Amber Shepherd from #SussexUniversity described her work on detecting dark matter with #lasers. It was indeed as excellent as that sounds.

I also learned you can cool things down (a lot) with lasers.

At #Brighton #cafesci tonight (“how to build a brain”) we had a live demo of modified fruit flies that sort of collapsed for a few seconds when heated up. Hmm, now that I’ve written it down it sounds underwhelming, but it was exciting at the time.

Brain appropriately tested by #cafesci tonight on plant intelligence. Not sure I knew that anaesthetics work on plants.
