Congratulations to Dr. Jairo Sebastián Martínez Vivas, who successfully defended his PhD thesis “Stimuli-responsive NHC-based pincer complexes for catalysis” last Friday.

His research at the Institute of Advanced Materials (INAM) focuses on stimuli-responsive pincer complexes for the reversible control of catalytic activity, opening new perspectives in catalyst design.

🍀 A happy new year to everyone! 🎊

📣 New paper out: Our year 2025 has ended with a new insight into the near-surface dynamics of solid #oxidation catalysts.

🤝 In a consortium led by Thomas Lunkenbein (formerly at @fhi_mpg_de, now at @unibayreuth) within the #CRC-TRR247, we could show how solid-state processes under reaction conditions dynamically alter the surface of transition metal oxides towards highly selective and active states.

💡 These observations will help to understand oxidation #catalysis and design better catalysts and have been published as a cover article in Nature Catalysis. Special congrats to our first author Thomas Götsch and many thanks to all for the great collaboration experience!

🧪 Synthesizing solid catalysts is one thing, but for their application, they also need to undergo shaping or - in case of 🔌 #electrocatalysis - deposition on electrodes. Such steps are sometimes underrated in academic #catalysis research.

🤝 We are very happy to provide our powder catalysts for such important studies that open the door towards 🍃 green applications. Thanks for the fruitful collaboration and special congrats to the first author Adarsh! 👏
