In the lab today, which means it's a podcast day! Started off with the recent 3 parter on #ClimbingGold, Which details the 'ascent' of Cerro Torre by Cesare Maestri. As someone absolutely convinced that Torre is the world's best mountain, learning a bit about the climbing history has been enjoyable, and lots of fond patagonian memories have resurfaced.

The first widely accepted ascent of #CerroTorre was made #OnThisDay in 1974 by Italians Casimiro Ferrari, Daniele Chiappa, Mario Conti and Pino Negri.

After the controversy of The Compressor Route just a few years earlier, Tom Connor summed up the mood in the 1975 Alpine Journal, stating simply: "At last an ethically pleasing ascent of Cerro Torre"

I miss this place! The Patagonian Icecap. This photo is a few years old but has inspired us enough to head back there in November 2024.

It shows a party crossing the Patagonian Icecap with the stunning backdrop of the Cerro Torre range covered in snow and ice. An incredible sight.
