Not quite the Great Wall of China, but the somewhat smaller city wall of #Chester. Even in the wind and rain, it was still an interesting amble. I learned of the existence of the word "murenger", a wall repairer/ maintainer, an Old English word derived from the even older French "muragier", the person in charge of collecting and administering the wall tax. I hadn't been to Chester since I was a student, and my last visit conjured up very vague memories, so it was a nice refresher to be able to appreciate the architecture and history of the place as a "grown-up". While I was there, took a few pictures of the Tudor-style timber structures, including the one below.

Took a trip to #Chester to see a movie today and had the opportunity to meet up with @r3ck0n3r for coffee beforehand. We were so busy nattering that I didn't take many pics but I just love the #TudorArchitecture there so much that I couldn't resist snapping this in passing.

In the imposing medieval church at Gresford, in #Wrexham county but not far from #Chester, there is a remarkable artefact - a portable #Roman altar. It was found during work on the drains some years ago. It's dedicated to Fortuna and she can clearly be seen with her shears. #ancientsky #paganism
