If you're at all hesitant about the chicken pox vaccine (despite it being massively tested in the most litigious country on the planet), I had chicken pox and shingles simultaneously when I was 32.
I had no serious issues (lungs, heart, brain) but it was still two weeks of hell. Taking a bath felt like laying on sharp grit with sunburn.
Of course, I was running my own business fixing computers for local companies at the time. Despite my protestations, two different clients picked me up from my house to sort out their computers 🤣 Absolutely bonkers.
Welcome, #UK #publichealth, to the 1990s. The last kids where I grew up (Ontario, Canada) to not receive the #chickenpox vaccine as part of the standard childhood regimen are pushing 40 by now.

Perhaps this country will soon figure out, like most of the developed world has, that spina bifida is largely preventable through mandatory folate fortification of flour, or that water fluoridation is a good idea, actually.

I had chickenpox as a kid. It was awful. I had some of the vesicles on the underside of my eyelids. Blinking was fun. And, oh my god, the itching. And the constant admonition from my mother and sisters to stop scratching 😀
There wasn’t a vaccine readily available before I got the disease.
NHS England are making a vaccine against chickenpox available for free. Get it!

Correct me if I'm wrong but:
Merck Sharp & Dohme's Varivax #Chickenpox #Vaccine contains hydrolysed gelatin, taken from animal body parts. This means it is *not* #vegetarian or #vegan.
#Vegans, #vegetarians or anyone prohibited from consuming animal products by belief or religion should instead choose GlaxoSmithKline's Varilrix (similarly named, don't get confused!). It doesn't contain hydrolysed gelatin.

OK, we should have been vaccinating kids against chickenpox for at least the last 25 years, but better late than never.
This will prevent a great deal of misery, and even save a few lives. Most kids recover uneventfully from chickenpox (though it's still not fun), but some have serious complications, and in rare cases, they can be fatal. We typically see about 20 deaths per year in the UK.
When asked by Rep Mark Pocan (D-Wisconsin) if #RFKJr would #vaccinate his own children against #measles today, #HHS Secy Kennedy paused before answering & said “probably.” He went on to say “I don’t think people should be taking medical advice from me” & did not answer directly whether he would vaccinate his own children against #ChickenPox & #polio today.
In Hobbs, #NewMexico, Sherif says about 85% of his patients are on #Medicaid, the federal & state #HealthInsurance program for #LowIncome Americans. His clinic orders about $50,000 worth of #measles, #chickenpox & other #vaccines per month through the program, he says, an amount of #money impossible for his small clinic to afford if not covered by the federal program.
“If I were to buy them by myself, I would not get enough for my patients,” he said.
