Trying to make a #cider. First time.

2025-11-02

My look up the allotment for the end of October shows the ground largely cleared thanks to my wife's hard work. Almost all the apples are picked and the crop was so huge we now have more than 25 litres of cider fermenting nicely.
We just dug up the wallflowers from the patch in the foreground. They will now be planted in the garden at our house.

This is our allotment pictured from the same spot as in previous months. Under a blue sky and light cloud you can see compost containers made from pallets, an area of cleared ground, a wooden shed and a few fruit trees. The mature trees in the background display their autumn colours.

Don’t let the season slip away. 🎃 There’s still time to find your Hollow Jack by 2 Towns Ciderhouse.
More thoughts: 2 Towns Hollow Jack - Out of the can, Hollow Jack, as you would expected produces little in the way of naturally carbonate head, resting on a pool of clear gold. Giving it a few frothy spins for photography, we see nothing for lacing inside the glass.
Swirling and sniffing, as expected, we smell notes of freshly made coffee, including some slight tea. floral notes, followed the hallmark pumpkin/baking spice notes of allspice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Admittedly, the coffee is front and center, with everything else showing up as you grow accustomed to the aroma.
Sipping, we get more of those baking spices, along with the Ethiopian coffee, and apples. Overall, Hollow Jack has a medium mouthfeel, some alcoholic warmth, and a slight tannic quality and a finish that is not overly coffee’esque.

The newest #cider from #PortlandCiderCompany is perfectly suited for fall, an addition to its imperial lineup that has a Thanksgiving vibe to me—Blood Orange Pomegranate. I recently received this and other new ciders from the company.

Took this a few days ago on a leaf-raking break 🍂 Now it’s raining—no raking, just celebrating 15 years of great cider 🍎🥂

🍂 Celebrating 15 Years with 2 Towns 🍾
Snapped this pic a few days ago during a quick break from raking leaves — and wow, this 15th Anniversary release from @2townsciderhouse was the perfect reward! 🌟

Fast forward to today: it’s raining, the rake’s retired for now, and we’re definitely not complaining. ☔️🍎 Just kicking back and cracking open another bottle of this fun, celebratory cider instead.

Cheers to 15 years of great cider and cozy fall moments! 🥂🍁

And how does it taste? Well ...
2 Towns 15th Anniversary: Out of the bottle, poured at angle to avoid any leftover yeast from clouding up the cider, 15th Anniversary temporarily creates a hefty amount of shaving-cream white head, resting on a clear pool of gold, almost blushed gold. Receding, after our vigorous swirl, there remains a wreath of lacing inside the glass.
Swirling and sniffing, we recover notes of slight oxidation, bubblegum, and pale straw.
Sipping, those same notes are there along with pear, some spice, and citrus, finishing with definite sharpness.
Overall, 15th Anniversary has a medium to strong mouthfeel, noticeable bits of alcoholic warmth, and a lingering sweet character.
