I Recently Learned that comparing torque specs of combustion vehicles with EVs is like comparing #Pommes with #PommesDeTerre.

So an electric vehicle that produces 1000Nm of torque is insane right?

Well, due to gearing, petrol vehicles have always given similar wheel torque in lower gears. Electric don't use gears (usually), so very different experience.

February 6, 2026. Gardening report. Winter season pruning of our apple trees is happening. The temperature was a pleasant 1 C in southern Minnesota. There was a lot of growth during the 2025 season. Some of the waterspouts at the crown are two meters long. Pruning can be a time of zen. #gardening, #apples, #Zone4b

Nice day out at RHS Bridgewater for a grafting workshop
We even did a couple of trees to bring home. I chose Bee Bench and Milicent Barnes as the varieties. I'd never come across either.
T'other half chose Ashmeads Kernal and Duke of Devonshire

🧵PA Farm Show 2026
More Apples — including the new for me GoldRush:

“Excellent in flavor and for storage. A product of the Purdue, Rutgers, and Illinois (PRI) breeding program, the name comes from its golden color and rush of deliciousness when bit into. GoldRush has a complex parentage that includes several superior heirloom varieties (Mellrose, Winesap, Rome) and even Siberian crabapple!”

The apples are small to medium size with a yellow-light green skin with small scattered gray spots and a reddish blush. A printed sign behind the apples describes the GoldRush Apple Profile, Character, and Availability.

PROFILE
A medium to large-sized fruit, truly golden in color with a reddish blush. Excellent in flavor and for storage. A product of the Purdue, Rutgers, and Illinois (PRI) breeding program, the name comes from its golden color and rush of deliciousness when bit into. GoldRush has a complex parentage that includes several superior heirloom varieties (Mellrose, Winesap, Rome) and even Siberian crabapple!

CHARACTER
Sweet, tart, spicy, and aromatic. While an excellent fresh-eating apple. GoldRush makkes superior single-variety sauces and juices.

AVAILABILITY
Late October through late NovemberThree GoldRush apples from the PA Farm Show retail apple stand. The apples are relatively small, with yellow-green skin, a reddish blush, and small gray dots. I tasted one and liked the sweet, soft, slightly tart flavor which I found unique and very refreshing. Maybe the crabapple in the GoldRush family tree!
