An hours worth of data on #comet12p done, now it’s time for C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS). Rather a lot fainter, this is a single 5 minute exposure. Aiming to get 24 of these.

Vespera smart scope set on the ground at the top of a hill overlooking the bay. There’s a lovely sunset.

It’s darker and the scope is open, pointing out past bushes into the sky over the bay.

Caught #comet 12P again. From the countryside this time, with wider horizons but some smoke haze about.

Once the comet was low enough, I got an #ISS pass as a bonus 😃 Photographed it fading into Earths shadow about halfway up the eastern sky.

Too bad: The clouds were eventually gone, but when it finally got dark enough to make out #Comet12p #PonsBrooks on the photos of my amateur camera, it disappeared behind the trees. So, no chance of getting a shot of its tail. 🙁

Still: A nice constellation of the crescent Moon, Jupiter (with three of its own moons), and Uranus. 🙂

In addition, Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks will be seen nearby, below the Moon and a little to the right, a little further away than the distance of Jupiter. Binoculars or a telescope will probably be needed to see the comet.

I had a look at Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks, probably for the last time as it becomes less favourably placed for northern hemisphere observers. I could see it plainly through 15X 70mm binoculars, but it was one binocular field width above a very bright red light on a crane. So I'm not going to try imaging it.

Spectacular astrophotography of the comet 12P with s grean glowing head and whispy blue tail.

Got a bit of clearing Monday night and was able to capture Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks on its way out of the inner solar system, not to return for 71 years. SO happy give this was from atop a deck amidst piles of #Seattle light pollution.
