Three Commer PB vans painted to look like bumblebees with a background of yellow and gold hexagons.

Yesterday I explained how #Magirus had disappeared as a mainstream truck brand but survives today as manufacturer of fire-fighting vehicles. Today, a 1950s fire engine from the UK that was built on a chassis from the now-defunct truck maker #Commer. Commer was the commercial vehicles arm of the Rootes Group, which made cars under the Hillman, Humber and other brands. Commers were rebadged as Dodge after Chrysler took over #Rootes in 1967. Here's an old #postcard showing the entrance to the Singleton campus of Swansea University. The card looks like its from the 1960s (I'm judging this by the buildings and the van)

Warum hinterfragt eigentlich niemanden diesen #INNengine #erex "1-Takter". Es handelt sich um einen Zweitaktmotor, der ganz ähnlich der alten Commer-Gegenkolben-Diesel arbeitet. Nicht einmal das Konzept mit den Taumelscheiben ist besonders neu. Damit bleibt auch der Wirkungsgrad tendenziell unterhalb der Brennstoffzelle. Und damit Masse (Flugzeuge), das einzige Argument für Anwendungen, wo batterieelektrisch nicht sinnvoll ist. (Bild zeigt #Commer, nicht #INNengine)
