Hi everyone. I am looking to produce a new podcast and if you live in #brimbank then I would love to hear from you!
This podcast hopes to focus on current and ongoing issues within Brimbank. As such, I have been monitoring issues that are being raised both at Council meetings and in community groups across Brimbank.
You do not have to agree with me or my personal position on a particular issue in order to be on the podcast - in fact, I am actually looking for people who disagree with me more than people who do agree with me. I want to have a respectful conversation about these issues, ensuring both sides have representation.
If you would like to have your say and be on the podcast, please send an email to voicesofbrimbank@gmail.com responding to each of the topics below, which have been selected based on last month's Council meeting, newspaper articles and community discussions:
1) Do you think Council should support a Vietnamese museum coming to Brimbank?
If so, do you think the proposed site is a good decision?
2) Fireworks; should they be banned?
3) Council calling for a ceasefire in Gaza; do you support Council’s involvement on this subject?
4) Australia Day; do you support Council’s decision to move the citizenship ceremonies to 3 days either side of January 26?
Do you think Council should abstain from hosting events on January 26, hold an Indigenous ceremony on that day, or host both Australia Day celebrations and an Indigenous ceremony?
Please include in your responses why you agree or disagree.
If you know someone else who may be interested in participating in this podcast, feel free to share this post with them and have them send an email to the address above.
This podcast will have a casual, conversational format and hopes to spotlight issues as they arise or are brought to focus in Council's monthly meetings. It is not an interview style podcast or tet-a-tet, as there is an amazing podcast already doing that.
For those who do not know me, my name is Shannon and I am a local Brimbank resident. I have lived in the municipality for around 40 years. Some of you may know me as a community advocate, raising issues and giving people a platform and a voice. I predominantly advocate in the disability and climate & sustainability space.
My background is in multimedia, working through different mediums for the past 25 years. I am currently registered as media with MEAA, though I do not work for any news or media outlet or have an affiliation with any of them.
I would also like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who has already shown me support and encouragement, including the amazing Dianne Cappelli from the West Matters Podcast - be sure to show her some love by listening and following her podcast here:

I hope you will join me on this new and exciting project.
