With the elaborate world of the novel it was important to have a detailed concept of the Pioneer suit. The author Anders gave me directions as well as freedom to explore aspects that were not described in the novel. Hence different ideas and testing until we both were satisfied with the concept designs.

This is two images put together in one image. The top image is of a rough sketch of an idea. I had to make a painting. The rough sketch is done in Inc. and it’s very simple with a stick figure person swinging from one umbrella to another across the sky on a backdrop of clouds. It’s about 4 x 6” and took probably about five minutes to draw it. The bottom image of the final finished painting which is much bigger, it is about 14 x 20”. It is painted in watercolours and you can see that the umbrellas. The child is swinging across these umbrellas freely. The clouds are big and white and fluffy with purple shadows. Above the clouds, it is night sky. It took about two weeks to paint it.

It's been a bit quiet on the artwork front the last couple of weeks. I've been busy with a commission and haven't been able to do much else. But in the evenings I've been doodling new designs for some trolls. Because I like trolls, their mythology connects with my personal experiences. Currently working on one that looks like a moose at first glance. That's going to be for a really cool bigger piece I'm planning to do!

Another take on this design…but this guy’s a bit more fancy with his gold accents and jewellery. Local boss or something.
The thinking behind these cyborg designs was to find an easier solution for a general background alien that was still kind of organic but didn’t require a ton of animatronics - so these would have been simple pull-over heads with the performer looking through gaps in the greeblie face tech.
