I feel that all branches of the US government have been pretty much successfully captured by capitalists. Basically the rest of #Conservatism, from bigotry to conspiracies, are little more than red meat that keeps their base of support (and opponents) busy while they plunder the nation’s wealth.

But capitalists are vulnerable. Without popular support, they know they will be eaten alive. Republicans know they have been losing the popularity battle and are vulnerable at the polls (that’s why they’re constantly trying to undermine voting). Boycotts actually do work, because in a consumer economy like ours, the power of retail customers is massive.

I don’t know how the people can reverse this nation’s authoritarian course, but I am tentatively hopeful that we will figure it out. I find that most people are growing an awareness of what’s going on, that the popular narrative is turning against Trump, and that “casual” Republicans are souring on their party.

This was totally my experience. And I even went to a Christian college for undergrad! All the more when talking about public universities.

Super-conservative parents are afraid that their children will go to college and be converted away from their family's faith. But really, it's the children leaving home and learning what the rest of the world is really like outside the lens that they've always used to see that world.

Nobody is trying to secretly eliminate religious beliefs. College students are just learning that what they were taught about the world doesn't line up with the people that are in the world.
