I'm about 90% through Howard Zinn's A People's History of the US.
This is a book that will remove any notion, any pretense that the #US is anything close to a #democracy or a democratic republic. The two-party political system is a fucking farce.
Choose between Grift 1 or Grift 2. Hard fascism or friendly, masked #fascism.
Both are parties that refuse to step away from #capitalism. One provides the illusion of being a better choice and liberals will come out of the woodwork to scream bloody murder if you dare suggest anything other than voting for it because the alternative is worse.
It's a fucking trap that has kept us from any actual progress for 100+ years.
But it's also a system in which middle class white folk have been very comfortable especially over the past 75 years. They benefit. Until they don't. More and more they don't.
This system cannot be reformed. Sometimes you have to start over.
