New study: "Articles authored or co-authored by employees of the [US] National Cancer Institute [are in the #PublicDomain but frequently] omit any assertion of public domain status, and…many of them remain inaccessible to the general public behind publisher firewalls. Medical institutional #repositories and libraries can play an important role in making this literature (both current and historical) more widely available."

The book in question is from 1905, "Caminhos de Ferro Portuguezes - Subsidios para a sua historia", about #railways in Portugal, whose author, according to portuguese Wikipedia, passed away in 1926. The version on Google Books has a different cover and was slapped with a 2010 copyright notice, but comparing a few pages it looks like it is the same (I mean, it wasn't even typeset anew).

Google points to a form to ask for their review for cases where a book is suspected to be in #PublicDomain, does anyone know if they actually are responsive to this, or is it another set of requests that never gets handled?

Das #MET stellt ein hochauflösendes Digitalisat als #PublicDomain zur Verfügung, derweil die @bsbmuenchen ein #Copyright behauptet. Dagegen spricht § 68 UrhG = gemeinfreie visuelle Werke bleiben auch digital gemeinfrei
