Czy moglibyśmy mieć już w Polsce taki program tv o #archeologia jak #TimeTeam albo #DiggingforBritain? Czy będę skazany na wieczne oglądanie brytyjskich wykopalisk a nie polskich?

Always sad when a #DiggingForBritain series ends. It's my happy place show. Thanks to @profaliceroberts.bsky.social and the team for making it. #Archaeology

Catching up on yesterdays #DiggingForBritain. Two things strike me again and again:

1. The last 300 years, the period we actually know a lot about, were utterly dominated by the slave trade. The history of the west is, fundamentally, built on slaves - all the time we consider "civilised".

2. There are hundreds of years before that - 2000 plus - which we know very little about from documentary evidence. And which we like to think of as "Dark Ages". But were actually very civilised in many respects. More so than some of our "civilisation" today.

We are not progressing. We are regressing.

Hmm, the archeologists making some good points about re-writing the record on Neolithic people and funerary customs, but there's a part of me that still feels like if you know it's a grave/tomb maybe don't go digging into it. Just seems a bit rude #DiggingForBritain

"It has a silver-and-gilt hilt, with a decorative pattern in fine craftsmanship, and a blade bearing a runic script. Even elements of its leather-and-wood scabbard and the beaver fur that lined it have also survived. Attached to its pommel is a ring, perhaps symbolising an oath to a king or another high-status individual."
