#BalesCatchUp: February 5: a disaster on #DisasterDay

H-8… (Nikola Tanhofer, 1958)
In mere hours, a disaster is bound to happen. The story meanders from the bus passengers to the truck drivers, while the road stretches out before them.

The two bus drivers and a boy keep an eye on the road. It's raining.

February 5th is #DisasterDay so the #ConnectedAtBirth #etymology of the week is DISASTER/ASTROLOGY/STELLAR/STAR #wotd #disaster #astrology #stellar #star

Some people believe astrology can determine whether your life will be stellar or a disaster, but only in etymology is your future written in the stars. The word star comes from Old English steorra “star”, from Proto-Germanic *sterzon-, ultimately from the Proto-Indo-European suffixed form *ster-s- of the root *ster- “star”. The suffixed form *ster-la- came into Latin as stella “star” giving us English words such as stellar and constellation. The older form of this PIE root with its initial laryngeal *h2ster- led to Greek aster “star”, which gives us English astrology. But when combined with the negative prefix dis-, this root also gives us English disaster, a misfortune believed to be caused by the influence of a star or planet.

Happpy #DisasterDay everybody!
On this 100th anniversary of the slaughter of thousands of Koreans in Tokyo—I mean the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, it’s a good reminder to get your disaster kit sorted & some reserve water!
While most infrastructure in Japan is quite safe, the real problem with disasters in the area lies in disrupted supply chains & utilities. Be sure to have back-up charging bricks charged & around the house & know where your nearest evacuation place is!
