Seit einigen Tagen funktionierte meine #DynDNS Konfiguration bei #Strato nicht mehr.
Die beiden Typen an der #Hotline waren zwar nett, aber nicht hilfreich.
Long Story short: In meinem Passwort (das ich seit vielen Jahren nutze) war ein $-Zeichen. Nachdem ich das entfernt habe, funktioniert auch das Update wieder.
Strato muss irgendetwas beim Auth verändert haben, was dazu geführt hat, dass mein altes Passwort nicht mehr funktioniert.

Somehow, my plan of making my own #DynDNS by regularly updating my #netcup domain with my home IP doesn't really work, it's super unreliable. I guess this DNS caching really is a b*tch. 😩
I wonder what #FreeDNS et al. do differently. Maybe they have some mechanics to force everyone to update more quickly, idk...

DynDNS Howto Via OPNsense
Can somebody recommend a good dynamic DNS service that I can use to access some stuff of my Synology nas? Preferably self hosted, but if it's free and safe, I can also just use a different service.
I primarily want to use my own domain (e.g. so I can use my yubikey for authentication).

Momentan bin ich #MullvadVPN nutzer, hätte aber echt lust auf mehr #Selfhosting. Tailscale scheint da die einfachste Lösung zu sein, aber die haben ja nur #Datenkraken als SSO provider?
Alternative wäre halt ein wireguard #VPN server mit #DynDNS, alle Geräte dahin verbinden, und auf dem #Server einen Client haben um wiederum Mullvad als Exit zu haben.
Klingt komplex, hat das schonmal wer gemacht?

That what call "Cloud Account" is probably the myfritz-service. This is only needed if you have an IP-adress that changes from time to time. This usually the case for plain private internet conections.
This service is the easy, lite and fritz-adopted version of #DynDNS and serves the prupose to provide a constsant internet-adress to a changing IP-adress.
There are various DynDNS-Providers with different Services. You could use such as well.

Ich wundere mich manchmal warum ich von unterwegs keine SSH Verbindung nach Hause bekomme. Jetzt hab ich einen Anhaltspunkt:
Die Pommesbox (5590, Glasfaser) updated scheinbar das IPV6 Präfix nicht zu Myfritz. Nur nach einem Neustart, nicht aber immer nach einem normalen (täglichen) Reconnect. Morgen mal bei AVM anrufen und nachfragen, bevor ich da jetzt was mache.
Mein Onkel ist ebenfalls betroffen, es liegt also nicht an mir, ich verwalte seinen kleinen Homeserver. Er geht klassisch über VDSL mit einer 7590 online.
Screenshots hab ich schon gemacht. Vor 1 Stunde die Pommesbox neu verbunden und in Myfritz steht immer noch das alte Präfix

Just a technical question. I am running a server at home with GoToSocial and Pixelfed. This is running super, only my internet connection has a dynamic IP address. Every day around the same time it changes. I notice that after this IP change it takes a while (10min) before GoToSocial and Pixelfed are available again. Even een technische vraag. Ik draai thuis een server met GoToSocial en Pixelfed. Dit draait super, alleen heeft mijn internetverbinding een dynamisch IP adres. Elke dag rond dezelfde tijd veranderd deze. Ik merk dat na deze IP wissel het even duurt (10min) voordat GoToSocial en Pixelfed weer beschikbaar zijn. Kan dit kwaad voor wat betreft federation? So wie ich es verstanden habe, muss die öffentliche IPv6 Adresse des wireguard-Servers beim Dyndns-Anbieter hinterlegt sein, um auf das Gerät hinter der Fritzbox zugreifen zu können. Ist das vom Sicherheitsaspekt so, als wenn ich mit ipv4 auf die Fritzbox zugreifen und dort dann an den wireguard Server weiter geleitet wird? Wie bringe ich den wireguard Server dazu, seine IP beim Dyndns Server zu hinterlegen?
The next one, which also started surprisingly early, was using #DynDNS hostnames for botnet command and control. That's what actually got me involved in the #infosec community (and where I met @jtk !)
DynDNS was good for C&C because they could move it around quickly, and have the bots follow. If the C&C got taken down, boom, switch to a new one. We were unintentionally helping them keep their control going.

This was surprisingly painful, but I managed to make a :nixos: #NixOS module¹ to periodically update DNS records via the @netcup API. This means you can do #DynDNS with your domain rented via #netcup 🥳
Luckily, someone already made a script² to interface with the API. I taught it to determine public IPs and poured it into a NixOS module with proper options.
