@Merovius Not uncommon on Wikipedia, where various editors add facts over time, sometimes without reading the existing page too closely.

I found this EU page rmis.jrc.ec.europa.eu/rmp/Dysp which gives a 2021 figure of 3126 tons produced, 40% of which was from China, 31% from Myanmar, and 20% from Australia.

Do I have to look at & update all of the rare-earth pages now? 😨 Maybe tomorrow!

At this extremely close proximity, the atoms’ natural magnetic interactions were significantly enhanced; 1000x stronger than if positioned 500nm apart. The team observed that these interactions resulted in two novel quantum phenomena: collective oscillation, in which one layer’s vibrations caused the other layer to vibrate in sync; and thermalization, in which one layer transferred heat to the other, purely through magnetic fluctuations in the atoms.

@riskable My focus is on the #EV space. But temperature matters there too, because #neodymium magnets start to lose field strength in the range of temperatures motors actually experience (~80°C). So you have to use higher amounts of #dysprosium, which means even higher cost & somewhat lower nominal field strengths. So #tetrataenite could be a really good fit, IF the achievable field strengths can approach the theoretical.

Need to watch this space, as I have investments in some rare earth plays.
