Loin des aménagements de surface, l’ECC met fin aux pires pratiques de l’élevage intensif des poulets :

🐓 Densités réduites à 15 poulets/m² max (contre 20 aujourd’hui),

❌ Fin des souches à croissance ultrarapide, causes de malformations et de souffrances extrêmes,

🌿 Milieu de vie enrichi : lumière naturelle, perchoirs et blocs à picorer,

🚫 Fin de l’accrochage par les pattes des oiseaux encore conscients à l’abattoir.

Résultat : 78 % de temps en moins à souffrir de « douleurs insupportables », un seuil au-delà duquel « de nombreuses personnes choisissent de mettre fin à leurs jours plutôt que d’endurer la douleur » selon une étude du Welfare Footprint Project.

@stman @theruran @50htz @vidak @forthy42 obviously #nvidia doesn't have any interest fixing it and their #ECC functionality is exclusive to the highest-end #Quadro, #Tesla & #nVidiaGrid cards, usually implemented only in #Software, thus sacrificing ~ 20% of VRAM.

• So for #consumers and #prosumers, there will be "#WontFix!" because #nvidia has neither commercial incentive nor penalty to incentivize them.

I'm not surprised of this at all, only that it took so long surprises me...

I was thinking today about how if you put a billiard ball at one focal point of an ellipse and have a hole at the other focal point that no matter which way you strike the ball, it will always end up in the hole (provided you strike it hard enough) no matter which direction you send it in.

That got me thinking about whether that could be gamified. You know, with a cue ball and a set of object balls.

@pft I don’t appeal to anything. I listen to academic’s who specialise in this field.

The consensus so far is that Shor’s is a mathematical proof, and will become a legitimate problem once large enough quantum computers are available.

I can understand (and even appreciate) you standing on verifiabiliy as a defense for no change.

But the simple fact is cryptographic academics who specialise in this are concerned, and big tech organisations (many who invest in Quantum Computer research themselves), will take much of the world’s software towards quantum resistant algorithms - long before you can own your own #CRQC to do your own testing. Some have already moved on to quantum resistant algorithms already.

The good news for you is - most of the algorithms are moving towards hybrid algorithms.

Given the severity implications of Shor’s, hybrid algorithms offer some of the best defense no matter which outcome ends up being proven to be correct.

N.B. A ‘do nothing’ approach really isn’t a viable long term option either. RSA has its own performance and algorithmic problems. Also, just because RSA hasn’t fallen yet, that’s no guarantee it will survive forever. And then there is ambiguity on the status on #ECC.

A while ago, I saw a post about a new set of elliptic curve parameters published by someone named Víctor Duarte, and boosted by Professor Bill Buchanan, known for his expertise in cryptography.

So I went ahead and wrote a Go implementation for it.

The parameters have been given the name EccFrog512ck2.

The key length is roughly 512-bits long, which should be fairly secure (against classical attacks).

It's pretty neat.

@Sirs0ri I'd recommend to stick with #Kingston (they source different chips, often SK Hynix) #Samsung (they make their own chips) and #Crucial (which is #Micron's retail brand)...

• They are good quality, reliable and work, and most importantly, you'll most likely find them on the #QVL of the #mainboard aka. they are known to work & certified by the mainboard vendor. You'll find it in the manual / documentation of the mainboard.

• Always look for the precise SKU of said kit to enshure it works. Espechally when it comes to #ECC, "ranks" and speeds.

• If your case has a crammed interior, make shure to check the dimensions as some "low density" Server-SODIMMs are not only ECC but also quite tall and may collide with some desktop coolers.
