Today is #SnakeyFriday, right? Right?

We stumbled upon a slow worm and a smooth snake today. What a blast!

Snakes are not a very common sight for us. And I didn't even know that smooth snakes live in Germany.

The image shows a person holding a small, slender blind worm in their hands. The blind worm is brown with a shiny, smooth texture and has a slightly darker brown head. The person's hands are visible, with one hand supporting the worm's body and the other gently holding its head. The background is a blurred natural setting with green foliage and sunlight filtering through the trees, indicating an outdoor environment. The person's left wrist has a visible tattoo, which appears to be a simple black circle. The worm's body is curved, with its head raised and facing the camera, while the tail is held by the person's hand. The image features a snake coiled around a light-colored wooden branch. The snake's body is patterned with shades of brown, gray, and black, providing camouflage against the natural background. Its head is positioned towards the viewer, with its eyes and mouth visible. The snake's scales are clearly defined, and its posture suggests alertness. The background includes various natural elements such as dried leaves, twigs, and green foliage, indicating a forest or woodland setting. The lighting is natural, highlighting the textures of the snake's skin and the wood. The image features a snake coiled among green foliage and brown twigs. Shades of Green: A Day at Arboretum Kalmthout

Embarking on a photographic journey with my Canon 5D Mark III, 7D Mark II, and an array of lenses—including the Canon MP-E 65mm 5x macro, Sigma 100–400mm, and Sigma 18–85mm—I explored the verdant beauty of Arboretum Kalmthout, Belgium. Accompanied by my son, an aspiring botanist, and a close friend I've mentored in photography, we immersed ourselves in this lush haven.

The arboretum unveiled a tapestry of green: close-ups of aquagreen berries, leaves adorned with glistening water droplets, unopened flower buds, and myriad other botanical wonders. Each subject presented its own challenge and charm, captured through the unique perspectives offered by our diverse equipment.

A particularly cherished moment was capturing my son in the foreground, diligently searching for unique plant species, with my friends exploring in the background—a testament to our shared passion for nature and photography.

This collection celebrates the myriad shades and textures of green, highlighting the intricate details that often go unnoticed. Stay tuned for more glimpses into our day at this botanical treasure.

I don't know if this mushroom is jet black normally or if it blackens as it gets old—it didn't *feel* old: firm and dry to the touch—but it's very cool either way 🖤

The image shows a round, black object on the forest floor, which appears to be a type of fungus or mushroom. It is surrounded by leaves, moss, and other forest debris. There is also a young plant with green leaves nearby.

Ranger Sarah with another view of the Paria Rainbow Mountains from a turn off along the road. At the heart of the Paria Rainbow Mountains lies a complex geological history that spans 85 million years. Each color that you see is a sedimentary layer that represents a different geological era.
