This Christmas, #Fairslator wishes you to always remember who you’re talking to and how. https://www.fairslator.com
Ending my article like a boss. #Fairslator
#Fairslator had a great time last week discussing machine translation bias #MTBias with translators and other language folk in the European Commission @translatores in Brussels (live) and Luxembourg (remotely). Thank you all for such a lively session – I think we all learned something!
The European Commission's Directorate-General for Translation (DGT) is the largest translation agency in the world. So when they asked me to come and give a talk on MT bias and #Fairslator, of course I didn't say no.
Thursday 7 December, 14:30, Rue de Genève 6, Brussels. See you there, maybe?
It’s only a simple UI tweak but #Fairslator now has better support for texts that are a bit longer than just one-liners. (And yes this is a quote from Jurassic Park. Remember Dr Ian Malcolm?) https://www.fairslator.com/
If you’ve been noticing that #Fairslator was a bit sluggish recently, you weren’t alone. But that’s in the past now because I have figured out how to make it blazingly fast. Fairslator (website and API) will now translate, disambiguate and debias most texts in less than one second. Give it a try: https://www.fairslator.com/
This is what it looks like when your favourite language technologist is on his way from one city beginning with B to another, to launch an exciting #Fairslator spin-off called Genderbase. https://www.terminologue.org/genderbase/
Good news for anyone using #Fairslator’s gender rewriting and form-of-address rewriting API: the API now supports French. https://www.fairslator.com/api Just in time for my presentation at TC45 next week! https://asling.org/tc45/
My parser thinks that, in the sentence "Wie viele Kinder haben Sie?", the subject is "Wie viele Kinder". I think it's beautiful and I'm fighting the urge not to fix it! #Fairslator
TMS vendors looking at #Fairslator like...
Ta-da! Today is a good day for #Fairslator because I am launching the Fairslator API – a machine-readable interface for software developers. If you want to use Fairslator’s gender and form-of-address rewriting features in your own apps, you can now. https://www.fairslator.com/api
Not to be needy or anything, but anyone who likes and uses #Fairslator can now buy me a coffee or three. No pressure, like. Only if you want to. Would be nice though. But no pressure. https://www.fairslator.com/
Your favourite #MT debiasing tool is growing, growing, growing. Here’s what the #Fairslator project has been up to recently. https://www.fairslator.com/whats-new-with-fairslator-3
Do you want better gender-handling features in #GoogleTranslate and #DeepL? Then install Bias Shield, a browser plug-in developed jointly by myself (wearing my #Fairslator hat) and the #DeBiasByUs project: https://www.biasshield.org/
This year's EAMT (European Association for Machine Translation) conference will have a one-day workshop on Gender-Inclusive Translation Technologies. Expect to meet #Fairslator there! https://sites.google.com/tilburguniversity.edu/gitt2023
Good news – or bad, depending on who you are: GPT-3 can’t replace #Fairslator.
P.S. Yes I did try differently worded prompts, not just this one.
Today, exactly one year since I launched #Fairslator, I am launching a parallel project called CAPE·MT (Computer-Aided #PostEditing of #MachineTranslation) for translators who want to make their #MTPE work less boring. https://www.cape.mt/
I spoke to machinetranslation.com about #GenderBias in #MachineTranslation, about my project #Fairslator, and about my vision for “human-assisted machine translation”. https://www.machinetranslation.com/blog/creating-an-inclusive-ai-future-the-importance-of-non-binary-representation
