Setting up raised garden beds in the greenhouse at present. Using #hugelkultur and #WormFarm elements to enhance soil life. Natural basalt soil is topped off with homemade compost for added #compostodon goodness. #FairyBootFarm, Lutruwita (Tasmania).

Harvested 10.5 kg of #Yacon tubers. Dehydrated some (delicious) and juiced the remainder to make syrup. Reduced 4 litres of juice to 500 mL syrup. This will be used as a sweetener and can also be used to activate yeast. The sugar in yacon (fructooligosaccharide) has no effect on blood glucose levels and acts as a prebiotic.

Hot air rises & so does our washing.

The hive has been packed down for winter here at #FairyBootFarm. First batch of mead is well underway. Some of the girls are still out and about. #Beekeeping #FlowHive

Our first Autumn with a beehive. Lots of learning has culminated in our first honey harvest. The bees have done their thing despite our bumbling efforts. Up next: learning to make mead! #FairyBootFarm #Beekeeping #FlowHive

Photograph of four glass jars with honey flowing into them from frames supported at a tilt in a honey super (wooden box). The honey in each jar is a slightly different colour.

Trying a new composting method. The photo is of the layers after 2 weeks of collecting organic matter, and just prior to turning into the bin again. Keen to see if this works, as I'm breaking lots of composting rules!

First-ever harvest of saffron at #FairyBootFarm. I've wanted to grow this for a long time. Clearly won't be giving up my day job just yet.

We’ve been getting lots of spinach and tomatoes from the polytunnel, but today’s harvest is slightly different. #FairyBootFarm #Beans

I almost can't believe this, but there is at least one platypus living in one of the dams on #FairyBootFarm ! Absolutely delighted by this discovery 😍.

Another discovery in the gardens of #FairyBootFarm today: an app tells me this is Persian Lilac.

Still finding new (to us) flowers in the garden at #FairyBootFarm. Today's glorious bloom is some sort of Iris. #BloomScrolling

Close up photograph of an Iris flower: a crown of delicately-veined pink petals rise up from drooping petals with bright yellow centres. Curving purple stripes lead to deep purple at the tips of the petals.

Sunday morning breakfast straight from the garden at #FairyBootFarm. Sizzle is courtesy of homemade cow's milk butter that I received as a trade for some milk grain kefir. #SelfSufficiency doesn't occur in a vacuum.

Sizzling in a saucepan are some halved red cherry tomatoes, a bunch of green spinach and an egg with a golden yolk.

Three-Cornered Leek, (un)popularly known as Onion Weed is flourishing in our paddock at present. I've been using it fresh in cooking, and am experimenting with fermenting, pickling, and dehydrating it. Today I'm caramelising a large bunch in the slow cooker. #FairyBootFarm #foraging

Bought some NFC Tags to play with. First use case: linking to favourites recipes rather than searching through recipe bookmarks. Now looking for an attractive way to organise them...
#FairyBootFarm goes high-tech 😂

Having fun using #Excalidraw in #Obsidian to create garden planting maps at #FairyBootFarm. I'm also using a simple dataview query to automate planting and harvesting logs. #PKM
